All Rasengan Variants of Boruto Uzumaki, Explained

The following article contains spoilers Naruto and Boruto.

The Rasengan is one of the most memorable jutsu Narutothe universe of Since its introduction early in the series, Kishimoto has expanded the possibilities for this technique with many variations performed by many characters. Even though Naruto has deep ties to his family, many other shinobi also know how to use the Rasengan, and it is a very versatile jutsu.

It will be no different with the manga sequel, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. As expected, Boruto Uzumaki quickly learned how to use the Rasengan from his father, and other characters have helped him find his own style and create his own variations of this jutsu. Here's everything you need to know about the Rasengan variants Boruto has used in the story so far.

The Rasengan is the signature jutsu of the Uzumaki family, and it carries a deep, emotional history. Naruto's father, Minato Namikaze, invented this jutsu so that Naruto's mother, Kushina Uzumaki, could use it on missions. His inspiration was the Tailed Beast Ball, and this technique is supposed to work well with high amounts of chakra. It was Kushina who gave the jutsu its name.

When performing the Rasengan, the user emits chakra from his palm, spinning it in multiple directions, turning the energy into a sphere/ball. Although technically a size conversion, it requires no hand sealing. While the technique itself is simple (it's just a mass of chakra), it's actually quite challenging to master, as spinning the chakra requires great control. Like his father, Boruto relies heavily on this jutsu in the story.

Since the Rasengan is useful and versatile, users can create variations of it. A simple way to upgrade this jutsu is by using more chakra, expanding the force. In the anime, Naruto creates Big Ball Rasengan (or Giant Rasengan), a larger and more powerful force, by accident. Later, he built an even bigger force, The Ultra-Big Ball Rasengan (also called Massive Rasengan or Super Giant Rasengan), which he can use with only one hand. Boruto learned these two versions from his father.

This is not the story of a boy aiming to become Hokage. That was my father's story. This is not just my story!

Two Rasengan users can also combine powers and form a larger “Cooperative Rasengan”. In the story, we only saw this done by the father and son duo. Both Naruto and Minato; It has since been used by Boruto and Naruto Parent and Child Rasengan. With his father, Naruto used it in both Tailed Beast Mode and Sage Mode, creating a massive force when fighting Obito Uchiha. Then on Boruto: Naruto Next GenerationsNaruto and Boruto use it to kill Momoshiki Otsutsuki.

However, like the parent and child Rasengan, Boruto and Kawaki have combined forces and created a single, giant Rasengan. Since both kamas are active, they channel their energy into each other to exert an explosive force Rasengan: Unity. There is also a game-specific version of the Rasengan that Boruto can use: Kam RasenganIn which he uses Shadow Clone and Kama to throw a large Rasengan at the opponent.

Super Compression Rasengan (Combined Jutsu)

This jutsu was invented in the anime by Boruto Uzumaki Boruto: Naruto Next GenerationsWhile training with Kakashi Hatake, who advised him to find his own style. Using both to condense and compress chakra, he created a concentrated, penetrating, and hard-to-defend version of the classic technique. It is sometimes called High compression Rasengan or Shrink Rasengan.

Later in the anime, Boruto invented this jutsu, combining it with Mitsuki's Senjutsu chakra and Sarada Uchiha's power. Super Compression RasenganAn advanced and more powerful version of this variant.

Rasengan: “Uzuhiko” This is the most advanced version of the jutsu. This was introduced in the first chapter Boruto: Two-Blue Vortex And this is done by harnessing the chakra of the user with the Graha Chakra (energy flowing from the Earth). This fusion allows Boruto to amass insane power, enabling him to display the most powerful Rasengan we've ever seen. He probably developed this technique while training with Sasuke during the time-skip.

However, in order to use it, Boruto's feet must touch the ground (although it is possible that he can perform it by touching the ground with any part of his body once he has fully mastered the technique). This planet needs to absorb chakra, and he needs a moment to charge the attack. According to the manga, this is like a “Rasengan version” of the Tailed Beast Ball Jutsu.

in NarutoIt doesn't take long for the main character to combine the Rasengan with elementary techniques. Similarly, Boruto also learned how to upgrade jutsu with his own elemental touch.

Light Release: Singing Rasengan

Initially Boruto: Naruto Next GenerationsBoruto accidentally adds a light release to a Rasengan, causing the energy field to disappear from sight before hitting the enemy. This creates an element of surprise for the jutsu. However, this combination makes the attack slightly less powerful than the regular Rasengan. Although created by Boruto The Vanishing RasenganThis name was Sasuke.

The Wind Release RasenganAlso known as Wind Style: RasenganUsed in the manga by Naruto Uzumaki. He fuses his air-nature with the Rasengan, filling the ball with air (Minato actually tried to combine the Rasengan and elemental techniques, but failed). In the anime, Boruto also learns how to perform this jutsu.

So, with all the Rasengan explained so far, here's a brief list of the variations Boruto has used up to this point. As the manga continues, more variants will appear:

  • Rasengan;

  • Great Force Rasengan;

  • Ultra-Big Ball Rasengan;

  • The Vanishing Rasengan;

  • Wind Release: Rasengan (anime-only for Boruto);

  • Parent and Child Rasengan (with Naruto);

  • Rasengan: Unity (with Kawaki);

  • Compression Rasengan (anime-only jutsu);

  • Super Compression Rasengan (with Mitsuki and Sarada);
