An Xbox gamer brings a monitor, console and headset to the birth of his child

In a clip that went viral on social media over the holidays, the new father is seen handing his newborn baby for the first time. The reason it's gone viral is because the dad is standing by an elaborate gaming setup they've put together to pick up the newborn from the doctor in the middle of the delivery suite.

The clip shows a man standing by an elaborate Xbox setup, complete with monitor and headset, to pick up a child from a doctor. While the baby may appear to have been born a few minutes ago, it's not clear if that's the case, though what is clear is that the gaming dad brought all that stuff with him to the hospital when it was time for his partner to give birth.

The Internet responds to new dads bringing their gaming setups to the delivery suite

Of course, the knee-jerk reaction has been shock. However, the amount of support the anonymous gamer received as the clip went viral is quite surprising. Those going through the process of having a baby note how much he waits around, and he's spending time only in moments when his partner doesn't need him.

Others have come to the father's defense, noting that he may be a streamer and is quite literally walking away from his job to get his new son or daughter from the visiting doctor. Reactions to the viral clip largely ranged from shock to outright disgust, however, and although we still know much less than what was shown in the short clip, most agreed with the sentiments shared in those reactions.

Whose side are you on?

Some have accused the father of choosing gaming over his partner, paying no attention to her in earlier moments, though again, we don't know all the details. My concern, which I seem to share with many others, is how much of a setup he brings with him. Bringing a monitor with you, and then proceeding to play Call of Duty online, is a bit much.

Imagine the ping when using hospital wifi.

I currently have a three week old son and freely admit that I played video games in the hospital while we were waiting for him to arrive, and then after he was born, so I can speak better than that. However, my hospital-based gaming was limited to playing Super Mario Galaxy on my Switch 2 (strictly handheld, I didn't arrive with a monitor under my arm). I haven't had to put down my switch to have my baby handed over by a doctor, but again, until a mom or dad reacts to the clip going viral, we don't know much about their situation.
