The Overwatch Spotlight blew most fans' expectations — including my own — out of the water. Many expected to see three more heroes for 2026, and some were even optimistic about a triple hero drop for next season following all the teasers. However, Blizzard surprised everyone by not only announcing five new ones Overwatch The heroes were added with the season 1 relaunch on February 10, but 2026 will introduce a total of 10 new heroes. With animated shorts, bold events, annual stories that unfold and connect over seasons, post-game hero cards and more, there's plenty for fans to get excited about. As always, though, there are some lingering complaints.
Unfortunately, my go-to support hero, Daya, has been at the heart of recent controversy, and I think even the biggest Angel fan would agree that the criticism is justified. Anran's in-game face doesn't match her look in Wuyang's teasers, and in addition to complaints that the new menu UI is too mobile-like for some players, a significant portion of the community is upset that Mercy is getting a second Mythic skin. A large portion of the hero roster still doesn't have a Mythic, including heroes like Ramratra and especially Lucio, who have long been desperate to get a Mythic. But angry as they are Overwatch Players understandably, I can't help but get excited about Mercy's upcoming skin, so I apologize for that.
On the bright side, Ramatra is finally getting her dancing sense, and Lucio is getting a Keropi skin in the future. hello kitty Collaboration Still, this probably feels like a consolation prize for fans of these heroes when mercy is skin-deep (like his own hello kitty Cooperation organization based on Pompompurin).
Why Lucio Menes is especially devastated about the Season 1 Mythic news
It's one thing to not see a mythic skin for your hero of choice after hoping it will finally be your turn, but Lucio's problem is that it feels like Blizzard is deliberately trolling their fans. Examples include:
-
Before appearing for the Mythic of Lifeweaver Overwatch 2 In Season 19, social media accounts made many references to Lucio, which ultimately came to nothing.
-
Lucio was clearly the inspiration for the latter Overwatch Competitive drives, leading many to hope that he will eventually be in line for a myth.
-
Blizzard's official short video showing Mercy's new skin is seen looking at Lucio in disgust, “You believe me? I don't know what to tell you…” before walking away in disgust.
Apparently, Blizzard has it in tune Overwatch The community longs for a Lucio Mythic, but for whatever reason, it just hasn't pulled the trigger. And unfortunately for Lucio Main, it doesn't look like it's doing that for several months. During the Spotlight stream, Mei was not only confirmed as the Midseason Mythic for Season 1, but three more Mythic skins were announced. They're going to Soldier: 76, Illari, and Mauga, meaning Lucio's next chance at his own mythic will be in the middle of Season 3. He's also out of luck when it comes to that. Overwatchof legendary weapons, as the next four are going to Juno, Genji, Hanzo, and Sojourn.
What makes everything even weirder is that Lucio is the one Overwatch 12/21 characters from the classic launch roster with OG, Mythics (and Soldier: 76/Mei set to make 14/21 soon). Of the final 1/3 of the original cast members who still require myth — Lucio, Farah, Roadhog, Bastion, Torbjorn, Symmetra and Winston — the music-loving support is the most popular, with only Winston and Farah coming close. There's a passionate community of Lucio mains full of skilled players like Frogger who regularly share their best boops and flank routes, and the fan base is truly desperate for a Mythic. And it's one thing for new characters like Lifeweaver or Illari to get Mythics before older heroes, but another for one of Blizzard's favorites to be spoiled with a second Mythic.
As Mercy the lead, I'm both guilty and excited for Season 1
I won't blame any Lucio Men who feel the need to sneak around my team and gun me down. Overwatch Season 1, because Daya must be sad to see so much extra love. Yes, he is undoubtedly a big skin-seller, which is why he continues to be bad, but certain characters like Baptiste and Winston regularly feel neglected in the process. Now, Daya's reign of terror has spread to legendary skins, and those who don't play her are understandably rolling their eyes. I totally get this hate…and yet, I'd be lying if I didn't plan on grinding through Battle Pass at breakneck speed to get Mercy's latest mythic.
Called Celestial Guardian, Mercy's new mythology is absolutely beautiful. It sees Angela Ziegler wearing a sparkly outfit with big fluffy wings that are a stark contrast to her typical futuristic wings, and her Hero Chosen introduction also sees her standing from behind. These wings look just as bold, feathery as Tier 2. She has a small pair of wings on the back of her head, in addition to the glowing halo, two recolors are available in Tier 3 that give her a light blue or red aesthetic. The weapon VFX and resurrection animations are reasonably sparkly, and players can find shiny feathers falling around her along with other small touches at max level.
I personally liked Mercy's original mythos, which made her an angel of death and showed how she was seen as a villain, but I know it wasn't everyone's cup of tea. This skin is a boon for any Mercy player who loves a good skin, and given most of her wardrobe, I imagine there are many players who do. If I had to score the skin, I'd give it a 9/10, as I'm not a big fan of the hairpiece and would have liked some alternative hairstyles, but overall it's beautiful. I can't wait to add it to my embarrassingly large Mercy Skins collection, and this inexhaustible hype is where my guilt comes in. Do I think other heroes are more deserving of Season 1 Mythic? Absolutely. Do I leave this skin as it is now? no
Blizzard's trolling with the new Mercy skin video is funny, sure, but only if it results in a mythic skin for Lucio. Two mythics per gero will not become common, at least not until the rest of the original roster has at least one mythic named after it. There's now a real fear that Kiriko, another Skin Eater, will also soon get a second Mythic, and it's hard to imagine it being any less controversial than this. Hopefully, the Celestial Guardian Mercy was just a one-off after Team 4 got a particularly cool skin idea, because I don't know if the Lucio Men will survive to wait for their timed turn in the spotlight. As a mercy man who is used to being spoiled, I certainly know that I cannot cope with such treatment.
