A day after reports of the RTX 5070 TI and 5060 TI 16GB being discontinued emerged, ASUS is backtracking, saying the opposite. There's just one problem: As is the case with RAM, you won't find a cheap 5070 TI or 5060 TI anytime soon.
In a statement issued on Friday, ASUS clarified that “incomplete information from ASUS PR representatives regarding these products” was passed along. Specifically, “GeForce RTX 5070 Ti and GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB are not discontinued or designated as End of Life (EOL).”
ASUS has no plans to stop selling these models.
That said, in the case of other products that have either received price increases or seen production fluctuations, ASUS is citing “memory supply constraints” as the main reason for production being affected and retailers' stocks falling. The company is working with its partners to “stabilize” supply, should conditions improve.
If the Steam Machine isn't priced like a console, it's not going to sell like one
The success of Valve's Steam Machine in the console market all depends on price.
“As a result, availability may appear limited in certain markets, but this should not be interpreted as a product stop or product retirement,” the statement read in part.
As of this writing, prices on the RTX 5070 TIs continue to rise. Based on the listings from Newegg, you're better off either getting a pre-built PC or waiting until things stabilize, which, given where the market is currently, may or may not happen.
Things are still serious, even if ASUS says otherwise
As Engadged previously reported, much of this panic surrounding the RTX 5070 and 5060 TIs stemmed from reports of hardware unlocking, which the channel said “apparently” was told by an ASUS person that the GPUs were in the midst of a supply crisis with plans to put them at “life-end”.
This does not mean that the 5070 was discontinued as a whole, but rather ASUS' own products. The channel also went on to connect with retailers who reported similar difficulties in sourcing specific SKUs.
In an updated comment pinned to the YouTube video above, Hardware Unlock noted that a timeline that started with them trying to secure a sample and GPUs that weren't discontinued but also impossible to find for retail levels and coverage.
“At this point, proof will be in the supply, as we cannot tell you if ASUS's statements are indeed accurate,” Hardware Unlock wrote. “We believe that the RTX 5070 Ti is over-supplied to the point of being effectively killed off, but we'll see if that's really the case over the next few months.”
However, it's the latter issue that non-AI-seeking consumers will have to contend with as everything from RAM to GPUs to storage like micro SD cards.
