While Shadowheart may be the most romantic companion in Baldur's Gate 3, Astarion is undoubtedly everyone's general favorite. His fun, jokes and overall performance have made him a constant at most players' parties and actor Neil Newbone has certainly become more popular because of it.
However, Newbon is wary of being typecast for his standout performance. Like the legendary David Bowie, he knows that “extreme repetition creates stability as an artist.” With that in mind, Newbon revealed that he has turned down several roles because they were too similar to Astarion's character.
There is only one Astarion
In an interview with FRVR, Newbon said that he has avoided some roles “because they weren't bad projects or anything, because they, to me, the character – they want the Astarion thing.” It's understandable that the actor would want to branch out rather than play the same sassy character again, and he's already shown his range in Baldur's Gate 3.
“It was like, 'Well, I don't really want to do that again. It's too close to a character I've already done, I don't think I can offer anything interesting for this particular character',” he said. In fact, he explained that it's not just Astarion's voice that he wants to recreate in some of these projects, but also the character's background.

“I've been working a lot, and everything I've done is very different from that in terms of character work,” she added. Apparently, he doesn't want to “be too typecast like most actors”.
Speaking of Astarion being one of a kind, Newbon recently finished playing Baldur's Gate 3 and reflected on the game and his journey. “There won't be another game like this, I think, either ever or for a very, very, very long time,” he said after the credits rolled. I think most of us would agree, especially given how replayable the game is.
