Alucard leaves Annette and Richter to find allies among the remnants of the French resistance group inside the city. Maria is almost turned into a vampire, by her choice, but her mother refuses.

This episode also shows how Erzsebet Bathory becomes the vampire queen after drinking Sekhmet's blood. In the end, Annette and Richter almost kiss but Annette's unsettling ex-ancestors surround them. Episode five is an important one, but fans don't remember much about it beyond moving the plot forward.

Plunging into the realm of the gods

“Ancestors,” The sixth episode, is mostly about Annette as it follows her into the realm of the gods. She hopes to find Sekhmet's original soul in order to have a chance to fight against Erzsebet and all his powers. It's methodically paced and important, but yet another episode that isn't full of amazing moments.

The best part of the episode is the beginning, as Maria finally controls her animals again with the help of darkness. There's also a fun flashback to when Richter and Annette were training as kids that's animated in a different style to make it look more crayon-like.

Angel of Death (Episode Two)

Delving into Drolta's backstory

Drolta was one of the main vampire villains in the first season, and she died at the hands of Alucard. In season two, she was revived at the end of the first episode. episode two, “Angel of Death,” Begins with Drolta's backstory as an Egyptian priest visiting Sekhmet's tomb. After killing the vampire, she also becomes the one to take care of her wife for eternity. That's part of this episode's larger story reveal, which is good to have context for.

The next big reveal was Richter going back to Juste to ask for his help, and he obliged. It was nice to finally see Juste fighting again, even if he wasn't at his best (unlike his debut adventure on the Game Boy Advance, Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance). Overall, the backstory for Drolta is good, as is his closing battle, and seeing Juste again is a confidence booster.

Line of Great Heroes (Episode Eight)

Leaving our heroes on a high note

“Line of Great Heroes” as it seems The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, It has many endings. The battle left off in episode seven resumes here and is quickly resolved. This leaves a large chunk of the episode dealing with later characters.

It also sets things up for season three, but if it never happens, fans won't be too disappointed or left with any huge anime cliffhangers. Although about two-thirds of the episode isn't filled with thrilling thrills, Richter has one memorable badass moment when he executes Drolta. It leaves the series in a good place, while leaving the door open for more.

A Living Story (Episode One)

Reestablishing the plot

The first season begins with an amazing fight scene featuring Alucard in a flashback. He is combing the depths of Egypt's tombs looking for Sekhmet's body to squash some of Erzsebet Bathory's power. It's an exciting opener, but the rest of the episode focuses more on plotting, as it goes through the main cast and re-establishes their situations.

Maria is sad for her mother Tera. You're coming to terms with being a vampire. Richter is sad that he lost last season but is glad Alucard is there to help, etc. the wild part of “A Living Story” The end is when Drolta is resurrected as a new monster by the Abbot's Infernal Machine.

Monstrous Things (Episode Four)

Maria's Petricide

“Monstrous Things” It has a lot of good stuff, not the least of which is the final battle in the French Museum. While the choreography is killer, there's another moment that tops almost everything that happens in season two. Maria, angry that The Abbot turned her mother into a vampire and created demons of her own, goes to the Abbot's church to kill her.

When Just tries to calm her down, Maria doesn't listen and instead lights up the meek father with her summoned dragon. The look in her eyes is uncomfortable, and the animators did a great job conveying that Maria is losing herself in that moment. This is an attractive image that makes a great desktop wallpaper.

Grenadie Alaso (Episode Seven)

The climactic battle

The events of season two were building up “Grenada Alaso,” and more Castlevania Seasons have great finales. It's strange that this came in episode seven and not episode eight, because this episode is almost all action.

Battles are fought from all over the city, and they are all well-animated as well. The budget is clearly visible here, and if this episode doesn't get the blood pumping, no anime can.
