Best Female Characters In Jujutsu Kaisen

Summary

  • Jujutsu Kaisen highlights strong, well-written female characters appealing to fans.
  • Characters like Yuki, Maki, and Rika stand out for their memorable arcs and unique abilities.
  • Female characters like Yorozu and Tsumiki add complexity and depth to the Jujutsu Kaisen universe.

The word shonen translates to young boy. As such, shonen manga and anime alike are typically targeted towards teen boys who want underdogs to relate to and role models to inspire them. It’s no secret that a large focus of the genre is on writing good male characters.

These quotes stick with you after watching Jujutsu Kaisen.

That being said, there’s no shortage of amazing women in anime. Fortunately enough, Jujutsu Kaisen is filled with well-written and memorable girls who can hold their own against the main cast! From the largely harmless Miwa to the living catastrophe that is Yuki, here are Jujutsu Kaisen’s best female characters!

Update on April 14, 2025, by Asad Kashif: Since Jujutsu Kaisen ended, enough time has passed to know which characters fans like and which ones they can’t bother remembering the names of. With the fourth official JJK character ranking poll coming out and fans online being quite vocal about their favorite JJK girl, we’ve gone back to see if we did justice to the various female characters written by Gege Akutami. We’ve added the infamous Yorozu and some other missing faces to present you with a list of the best women in Jujutsu Kaisen.

The list doesn’t contain direct spoilers. However, it may hint at events that happen later on in the manga.

15

Hana Kurusu / Angel

At Jujutsu Kaisen’s earliest stages, Yuji Itadori was shown to be a freak of nature, being able to hold a Cursed Spirit within him and share his body with Sukuna. While no other character casually contains Sukuna, a lot more of these reincarnated sorcerers appeared during the Culling Games arc. While many had their brains and memories overwritten by the sorcerer possessing them, Hana and Angel instead formed a duo.

Hana by herself is a girl that wants to do good because she had good done to her. She’s a gentle soul, befitting of a vessel of a being literally called Angel. She had her life saved by Megumi when they were children, and this act of helping others motivated her to go on to become a saint. With Angel also being one of the most integral pieces toward JJK’s end, this duo deserves a joint spot among JJK’s best girls.

14

Tsumiki Fushigoro

Tsumiki Fushigoro is the older sister of Megumi. Unfortunately, she’s one of the characters we’ve seen the least of, with most of what we know about her being from Megumi’s stories. What we do know is that Tsumiki was a wonderful and gentle older sister who always kept Megumi in check, and after their parents’ death, became his sole guardian.

Death is a common topic in Jujutsu Kaisen. Still, we weren’t prepared for these brutal deaths.

Her personal character aside, one of the reasons we’ve grown so fond of Tsumiki is because of how important she is to Megumi. One of Megumi’s governing character themes for his delving into Jujutsu society was to save Tsumiki from her curse. As fans of the series, watching Megumi struggle in the way of his goals makes us root for him, and in turn, for Tsumiki.

13

Uro Takako

Uro is one of many reincarnated sorcerers that serve as mini-antagonists for the Culling Games arc. Whereas other similar characters were forgotten, Uro garnered much attention due to her unique cursed technique and sheer strength as a sorcerer.

Uro is also one of the only female characters in Jujutsu Kaisen who is confirmed to have a Domain Expansion.

Additionally, despite Uro’s absurd amount of power, which was strong enough that Yuta used her copied technique in his fight against Ryo, she chose to run away after she saw Sukuna. This is in stark contrast to other powerhouses we’ve seen, such as Kashimo, making her one of the only sorcerers with enough sanity to value preservation over thrill.

12

Tengen

For those who have only watched the anime, this entry might seem like a joke. However, turns out that the single most integral character to the Jujutsu Kaisen universe, the sole reason that the world hasn’t succumbed to the terrors of curses, and the one responsible for the somewhat stable state of current Jujutsu society, was originally a woman!

6 Lingering Questions We Have After The End Of The Jujutsu Kaisen Manga

Now that Jujutsu Kaisen has finally ended, we’ve still got a few questions.

This reveal might come as a shock to many, but Tengen’s character always had motherly symbolism, with them focusing on barriers for protection. Every Star Plasma Vessel we’ve seen has also been either a teenage girl or a young adult woman, including the tragic Riko Amanai.

11

Yorozu

When most think of Ryomen Sukuna, they think of a heinous criminal, a being so tainted and evil that even his title of ‘The Disgraced One’ doesn’t do him justice. However, if you’re a certain Yorozu from the Heian era, you’d instead see the perfect potential partner, one that she loves so dearly that she can’t help but want to kill him.

Yorozu is one of the weirdest characters in Jujutsu Kaisen, hated by all those who lived alongside her. She was selfish, crude, and all kinds of offensive to people. Fortunately, in a fictional world, these otherwise unappealing traits make a character that much more likable, and despite her only being added to fight Sukuna, Yorozu is one of Jujutsu Kaisen’s best and strongest characters.

10

Mai Zenin

Mai is a very polarizing character among Jujutsu Kaisen fans, despite her role in the story and what she represents being much more nuanced than many may initially think. Like Maki, Mai was treated unfairly by the cruel Zenin clan due to her not having much cursed energy. Unlike Maki, though, Mai was fine living her life out as a servant, obeying the commands of her elders in exchange for a peaceful life.

Jujutsu Kaisen: 8 Anime Characters Who Could Defeat Gojo

Yes, the strongest sorcerer of today is indeed strong. But there are many characters outside of Jujutsu Kaisen that could beat him easily.

Unfortunately, her personal desires were sent out the window due to Maki’s rebellion, with the Zenin clan forcing Mai to follow her sister’s path as a sorcerer, something Mai didn’t want. This led to Mai becoming extremely cruel to others, almost sadistic at times. Still, despite her less-than-gentle personality and her wish to look down upon others, Mai is one of JJK’s many great female characters.

9

Shoko Ieri

Shoko Ieri’s aloofness and iconic eyebags make her an instantly striking character, and her being left alone to experience what happened with her closest friends makes her one of the most tragic as well, being forced to experience the fates following her two closest friends.

She never got to see much on-screen flare due to her being a healer reserved for the backlines, but her hand in keeping important characters alive and being a main condition for several of the cast’s plans against Sukuna, as well as her unique relationship with two of the central pieces of the series, puts her very comfortably among the top women of Jujutsu Kaisen.

8

Mei Mei

Mei Mei is a bit of an oddball when it comes to Jujutsu Kaisen characters. The people who love her are many, but so are those who dislike her. She’s an extremely strong sorcerer despite having a somewhat lacklustre cursed technique, complementing Jujutsu Kaisen’s theme of the strongest having that title because of themselves, not their powers.

At her worst, though, Mei Mei is also a selfish, greedy woman with certain controversial writing decisions concerning her and Ui Ui. Whether you love her or hate her, there’s no arguing that Mei Mei is one of the most complex characters in Jujutsu Kaisen, showing that not everyone the protagonists ally with is a good person.

7

Riko Amani

In a world of powerful sorcerers, Riko shines brightly as a normal human being. Despite being an average teen girl, her learning to want to live selfishly is among the best arcs in Jujutsu Kaisen. The internal conflict between duty and doing what you want to do is something many of us can relate to more than fighting off powerful curses.

Riko’s resolution is also one of the most important events in Jujutsu Kaisen. It helped Gojo awaken and fully understand his cursed technique but also led to Gojo and Geto drifting apart, with the latter going down a road of evil. Her finally learning to care for herself also indirectly became the reason for Kenjaku eventually taking over Geto’s body, as well as the entire Shinjuku Massacre arc due to Tengen’s lack of a Star Plasma Vessel.

6

Rika

To those who haven’t seen the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Movie, Rika might just be an incredibly strong, super cool curse that aids Yuta in his battles. However, for those more caught up, it shouldn’t be a surprise that Rika herself is one of the best female characters among the JJK cast.

The final arc of Jujutsu Kaisen brought many, many battles. These were the most memorable ones in the Shinjuku Showdown Arc.

Despite dying as a kid, she lived on as a curse in an attempt to protect Yuta, honoring their promise. It’s important to note that the Rika we see in the present day is not the original soul belonging to the young girl, but rather a copy created after the original soul was freed from the curse. Still, she’s the perfect partner for Yuta and a very amazing character!

5

Yuki Tsukumu

Special-grade sorcerers aren’t many in the Jujutsu Kaisen universe to begin with, and Yuki Tsukumu is the only woman among them. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call her one of the most hyped characters in the series, with each scene of her only getting fans more excited about her eventual reveal.

Yuki’s cursed technique allows her to create a blackhole if unleashed to the maximum. This makes her have even more destructive power than Gojo.

After her fight with Kenjaku, her already decent popularity multiplied rapidly. While she didn’t reach the same level of community love as entries ranked higher, she remains one of the coolest characters in Jujutsu Kaisen.

4

Miwa Kasumi

Miwa isn’t the strongest sorcerer, and she may be one of the weakest. Despite there being multiple hints at her eventual power-up, such as her brightly colored hair and a panel focusing on Miwa in the Culling Games arc, up until the end of the series, she remained mostly powerless.

These are the characters that can’t seem to stop getting love.

However, strength isn’t all that matters for a character. Miwa is a universally adored character, securing top places in every popularity poll. She has quite an internet presence as well, being the attention of many JJK memes and references.

3

Utahime

Utahime may not have seen as much action as many other entries, but she’s been one of the most popular JJK girls since day one. Her trademark facial scar, paired with her shrine priestess aesthetics, makes for a very memorable design, and her interactions with Gojo, Jujutsu Kaisen’s poster boy, only serve to give her more points.

She even got some background at the start of season two and became a key support player in the background when the cast was fighting Sukuna. While her students may not have seen nearly as much popularity as their Tokyo counterparts, Utahime herself certainly has!

2

Nobara Kugisaki

It’s no wonder the only girl in the main trio would be one of the most beloved girls in Jujutsu Kaisen. She’s highly regarded as one of the best-written fictional characters in all of shonen and had fans hooked on her fun personality and captivating looks ever since she was first introduced.

This love for Nobara only became stronger as she got to have more scenes that show her glory, as well as flashbacks to show how she got to be the person she is today. She was also the highest-voted female character in JJK for a long time, only losing out to Maki after the latter got her arc.

1

Maki Zenin

Maki is both strong and dependable, with the bonus of having the coolest fit in the series. She’s also one of the only JJK girls to get an entire arc dedicated to them, as well as the only female main combatant to survive Sukuna’s onslaught of attacks head-on until the end of the series.

Her coming to terms with her past by walking straight into the Zenin headquarters and coming out a completely changed person was one of the sickest moments in the series, with the new Maki forcing even the likes of Sukuna to resort to deceitful tactics against her. If for nothing else, the rule-of-cool alone is enough to give Maki Zenin one of the top spots among the best Jujutsu Kaisen characters.
