Black Ops 7's latest Zombies announcement is an even bigger head-scratcher than Paradox Junction

After the response to Paradox Junction in Season 2, which was another version of Nuketown, Treyarch is trying to reassure. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Zombies fans that game still have a lot more content to look forward to. And, to Treyarch's credit, early looks at Season 3 Reloaded's Tottenreich map and the OP legacy weapons that have been added in the accompanying mystery box look exciting. Zombie Battle is also a fun Grief-like experience to play with friends and randoms, and Ashwood is a fascinating survival map because the fog gimmick from Ashes of the Damned is being reused for its ground level. However, Ashwood's problem isn't the map itself, but that it's the last of its kind.

Treyarch recently made the announcement during a dev talk Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Season 3 that Ashwood will be the last surviving map taken from Ashes of Dammed, a decision that immediately caused confused community members to post on social media. From known CoD leakers like @TheGhostOfHope to regular Redditors like MarceloJulio, it's clear that this choice has gripped the community. After launch, many felt that Blackwater Lake would be an ideal survival map, but apparently, it wouldn't be one at all. While Paradox Junction makes sense from a time and resource saving perspective, figuring out why Lake Blackwater was left on the cutting room floor is a bit more difficult.

The creation of Paradox Junction also allows for a Nuketown survival map, which hasn't been leaked recently, but seems to have been confirmed by the addition of a round 10 symbol to the main menu.

Why might the Blackwater Lake Survival map have been abandoned?

Blackwater Lake seems to have everything going for it as a POI; Training areas on the ice and driveway, a narrow main cabin for busy close quarters meetings, room to add Wonderfizz and Pack-a-Punch machines, and locations for TEDD tests/ammo/the mystery box. There are a few theories as to why this isn't happening, with the most prominent being:

  1. The surprising return of Black Ops Cold Warmode of attack

  2. The open areas of Blackwater scarcity make it much easier to survive

  3. Treyarch feels that upcoming round-based maps will offer more interesting survival zones

The first theory has no evidence to support it, and given that the attack was not a huge hit, it seems unlikely to prove true. Still, in a world where Treyarch suddenly revives the mode, which saw players kill a small group of undead as they escorted a Dark Aether Orb across multiplayer maps, then this would explain the lack of Lake Blackwater. This is because the multiplayer map Homestead is essentially a larger version of the Blackwater playspace, so Treyarch is doubling down on the same locale instead of giving fans more bang for their buck. The second theory is equally questionable. Of course, Blackwater Lake is a highly rounded place in Ashes of the Damned, but there are also easy trains in other survival maps drawn from Ashes. And, if Treyarch wanted to increase the difficulty, it could always only show the interior of the cabin, leading to a narrow and challenging map like Grosten House. WW2 corpse

This leaves a third theory, and it will ultimately be a good sign Black Ops 7the future of Looks like there are 3 seasons left Black Ops 7 With Zombies support (S3 Reloaded, S4 Reloaded, and S5 Reloaded include the rest of the round-based maps), there are naturally a few more slots left for survival-only arenas. Instead of spending those slots on Ashes, a map that's already heavily represented among Survival, Treyarch may have wanted to make sure some of the fun self-contained areas from the next three full maps make it into the mode. Perhaps there is something wonderful and unexpected, like the Mars location of the Astra Malorum, which makes Lake Blackwater out of the water. Totenreich is obviously going to be a huge map as well, so it will definitely be ripe for the picking when it comes to survival maps (for example, Lighthouse already looks like a standout contender).

That said, hopefully Treyarch sees the demand for Blackwater Lake and considers throwing it in as a bonus before ending support. Black Ops 7 Zombies and all going on its next Call of Duty the game It could drop a double survival map like in season 1, or maybe it could be an extra super easter egg reward. Clearly, there is interest, perhaps more than Treyarch initially realized. With players wanting a map dedicated to Blackwater instead of locations like Zarya Cosmodrome, leaving it for last and moving on from Ashes before release was clearly a misfire. Whether this complaint will be addressed remains to be seen, but on the bright side, as Treyarch suddenly moves on from Ashes it suggests cooking up some fun survival maps from the rest of the releases.
