Azmodan's Lore and Role in Diablo 4 Season 11, Explained
Azmodan's early history and struggle against Prime Evils
When Tathamet, the second being, was slain by the first being, Anu, each of his seven heads were transformed into unholy deities known as the Lesser Evils. They are only “lesser” in the sense that they are individually weaker than the three major evils; They are still infinitely powerful by mortal standards.
Following the Prime Evils' attempts to gain mankind's allegiance in the Sin Wars, the Lesser Evils became frustrated and confused, fearing that the Primes were becoming distracted and cowardly in their war against Heaven. Worked with Azmodan Diablo's Belial, another of the lesser evils, to defeat the Prime Evils and banish them to the Sanctuary, the mortal plane of the game's universe. The pair's main goals were twofold: to gain greater control of Hell for themselves and to initiate a proxy struggle between the overlords in the Sanctuary and the forces of Heaven, thus leaving the gates of Heaven open to attack.
Azmodan and Belial succeeded, but would soon turn on each other, pushing Hell into another civil war. Azmodan would hold a significant advantage over his opponent for a long time, but they finally landed in some semblance of peace, setting their sights once more on the mortal race. Hungry for greater power, and not just in Hell, Azmodan attacked Sanctuary.

Leia was raised by Deckard Cain to aid the Nephalem in their fight against Azmodan, who were trying to steal the Black Soulstone, a device used to trap demons. This will be the end of the journey Diablo 3Mount Aret, where the Nephalem, Adira, Leia, and the fallen angel Tyrell would confront and defeat Azmodan, trapping his soul in the Black Soulstone along with six other lesser evils.
But Adria, who was a double-agent for Diablo all along Diablo 3betrayed the group and sacrificed Leia to summon Diablo, who was now imbued with the essence of Parsley and his kin. Despite being the most powerful being in existence, Diablo was defeated by the Nephalem, and his soul returned to the Black Soulstone, still entwined with the souls of the Lesser Evils. Eventually, the Black Soulstone was destroyed, and the lesser evils were broken from Diablo.
