Egypt deplores Israeli assaults on civilians in Gaza Strip

Amman: King Abdullah told a delegation of US congressional allies at the Al-Husseini Palace on Sunday that Jordan would not be drawn into the ongoing Gaza conflict and would prioritize the safety of its citizens.

Reaffirming Jordan's commitment to regional stability, King Abdullah called for urgent efforts to de-escalate tensions in Gaza and for an immediate ceasefire. He warned that the conflict poses a major threat to the region and called for international efforts to be stepped up to prevent it from turning into a wider war.

He highlighted the dangers of extremist settler attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank and violations of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. He reiterated the need for a political solution based on a two-state framework as the only path to sustainable peace and security for Palestinians and Israelis.

King Abdullah stressed the importance of continued support for Palestine refugees to ensure that the United Nations Relief and Works Agency can fulfill its humanitarian mission.

The meeting also covered opportunities to strengthen US-Jordanian relations, with King Abdullah expressing his gratitude for continued US support. The US delegation in turn acknowledged Jordan's important role in promoting peace and stability in the region under the leadership of King Abdullah.

In the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration, Ayman Safadi; Director of the King's Office Dr. Zafar Hasan; and Dina Kawar, Jordanian Ambassador to Washington.
