Fallout fans are once again wishing for a new game

Catching up on all the events in and around Christmas, including the second-to-last batch of Stranger Things episodes, as well as all the Game of the Year contenders, it's easy to forget that Season 2 of Amazon Prime's live-action adaptation of Fallout is also happening on a weekly basis.

Already one of the highest-rated projects this year, Season 2 of Fallout is shaping up to be another all-timer when it comes to video game adaptations. So much so that fans are once again wondering a simple question: Where the heck is a new Fallout game?

Fallout was never Bethesda's, and it's time for someone else

Bethesda once took over Fallout from Interplay, and it's time for a new developer to do the same.

The Fallout universe is rich and waiting for everyone at Bethesda

Taking to Reddit, fans of the series are confused that, despite its success, the only title still receiving updates is the heavily divisive Fallout 76.

“Literally the easiest bag of money they could ask for,” one person wrote in part. “(I don't know) why they didn't plan to exploit it. I know it's unreasonable to make a quick game out of thin air, but I feel like it should have been planned.”

That's a rather fair assessment, especially when you consider that, on the other end, Sony managed to pump up the Toll Done remake to match a fairly weak film. Then again, both Devil May Cry and Splinter Cell received anime adaptations and neither are in line for new entries.

“We've been waiting for 11 years, bud,” wrote another. “Welcome to the club.”

That club seems to grow more crowded with each passing week as more and more people discover how incredible the world of Fallout is only to discover how accessible its games are.

That's because if you're on either Switch or PlayStation, Fallout 3 and New Vegas, both considered the pinnacle of the franchise, are unavailable to you.

“They should be doing mainline games every 5 years, even though the technology leaps haven't been huge,” wrote another fan.

As it stands, Todd Howard insists that a season 3 of the show is in the works, and that Bethesda wants to add elements of the show to its games. It's unclear when Season 3 will be released, and with Bethesda yet to release The Elder Scrolls 6, any shared continuity could be years away from being realized, something Howard previously confirmed.

However, there is hope, a glimmer though. Earlier this month, Howard acknowledged possible remasters for Fallout 3 and New Vegas, but didn't provide much beyond that.

“We get it, right? We see all those comments,” Todd told Dexerto. “We're working on a whole bunch of stuff. And we're looking forward to the day we can reveal them.”

Hopefully that day comes sooner and sooner as these fans, including myself, are hungry for new content.
