Final Fantasy 14 has been losing players since the launch of Dawntrail in 2024, dropping from a concurrent peak of 92,000 to 21,000 on Steam, but the current 7.4 patch has proven a huge success with the community, returning much-needed goodwill to S. And to capitalize on its newfound momentum, the team has brought back the free login campaign.
Running from now until February 9, 2:59pm GMT (9:59am EST), players who have been inactive for at least 30 days are invited to return to Etheirs without the need for a subscription. To qualify, you must meet the following criteria:
-
Already purchased and registered Final Fantasy 14.
-
All registered service accounts must be set to inactive during the campaign period.
-
The registered service account must have been inactive for at least 30 days.
Find out more on the official website.
If you have multiple Service accounts registered to the same Square Enix account, you may not participate if any of them are currently active.
If you qualify for the free login campaign, you have four days to enjoy Final Fantasy 14 at no extra cost from the moment you log in to the launcher. Be warned though, the four days will expire “even if you actually play the game”.
The Heavensturn event is live now, but ends soon
With the Heavensturn 2026 event in full swing, now is the perfect time to start your free trial, as you can earn the Uma-no-unicolt minion and Gilded Screen furnishing by completing the Seize the Neigh seasonal quest. The celebration ends in just four days, on January 15, lining up nicely with the window of the free login campaign.
However, after your four days expire, you'll need to pay the usual $12.99 – $14.99 monthly fee to continue playing.
For new players, if you're interested in trying Final Fantasy 14 for the first time, did you know that the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy 14 has a free trial, and includes A Realm Reborn and the award-winning Heavensward expansion with no playtime restrictions up to level 70?
