The Final Fantasy 7 remake was announced all the way back in 2015, making the entire project over a decade old at this point. If we're being generous, we'll say that the last part of the trilogy will be released in 2027, which means that director Naoki Hamaguchi will devote 12 years of his life to the entire project. That's a lot of time.
As the finale of the Final Fantasy 7 remake series drew closer and closer, the conversation naturally turned to games that Square Enix could possibly give the same treatment to. Final Fantasy 6 has always been a game with fans clamoring for a remake (as many as 9), and while the idea of a Final Fantasy 6 remake is appealing to Hamaguchi, he doesn't want to take on the project.
Final Fantasy 7 remake director wants someone else to remake FF6
In a new interview with GamerBraves (thanks GamesRadar ), Hamaguchi says that despite the many calls from fans to remake Final Fantasy 6 , he doesn't feel he has to commit to remaking Final Fantasy 7 after more than a decade of his life.
Naoki Hamaguchi BGS Interview: Final Fantasy 7's Present and Future
For the upcoming port of FF7 remake Intergrade, we sit down with its director to find out more.
“I've been involved in the Final Fantasy 7 remake project for about 10 years now – and [I’m] Now I'm finally seeing the end of the tunnel – so in that regard, because I've spent all this time building this remake of Final Fantasy 7, should I be the one to remake the next series?”
Instead, Hamaguchi says he'd rather have some fresh blood come in and have a new creator take over that role, and that he'd rather “put myself in the support section to cheer them on.” To be fair, after spending so long on a completely different remake project, I think we can let Hamaguchi put his feet up and be the cheerleader this time.
