Funko Fusion Review

I've never been into collecting Funko Pops, though Funko Fusion Still caught my eye. I was intrigued by its quirky concept of combining completely unrelated entertainment franchises in a third-person shooter, and when it became clear that it was inspired by it. Lego Video games, I was more on board. But after playing Funko FusionAll I can say is that Funko fans should stick with buying vinyl figures instead.

Funko FusionA random collection of random IPs sounds like a fun idea on paper, but in execution it doesn't work. List of franchises represented in Funko Fusion runs the gamut from Five Nights at Freddy's who Mega ManRepresented through unlockable characters and playable stages. Seven of the franchises get fully developed worlds where most of the action takes place, though it's as if the IPs chosen were pulled out of a hat to gain greater focus. That's amazing Umbrella AcademyYears from the height of its popularity and coming off a near universally panned final season, it has five levels dedicated to it while something with more cultural relevance in 2024, e.g. invincibleThere is only one. And while I love Edgar Wright's hilarious 2007 action comedy Hot fudgeIt is odd that it has five levels instead of Wright's own Shaun of the DeadWhich is easily the most popular movie.

Still, it can be fun to find special characters from Chucky child's play in Funko FusionAnd there's an absurdity to it all that makes it entertaining at least on a surface level. The developers clearly have a special love for the IP Funko FusionWith a deft touch like number five from Umbrella Academy Other playable characters in the game such as teleporting instead of dodging. It's also neat to see the worlds of these franchises recreated and die-hard fans of the IPs will get some entertainment value from exploring certain levels.

But when it comes to actually playing the game, Funko Fusion There is a disaster. Players will soon forget the messy charm of seeing random franchises thrown on the dart board when they get into the pits and try to play the game. a common one Funko Fusion Levels are mostly open-ended areas where players walk around, solve simple puzzles with unclear objectives, and shoot multiple enemy Funko Pops. It can sometimes be confusing to know where to go or what to do next, and the game suffers from being extremely repetitive and buggy. Players don't realize they can't advance the story because they haven't figured out what to do or the game isn't working right.

And even when everything works perfectly, Funko Fusion Objectives can be incredibly boring. Many levels have escort missions, which are rarely fun. One particularly troubling escort mission can be found jurassic world A stage where players must escort Gyroball through areas that have already been explored in the previous level. Players must keep enemies away from the ball and stay close to it to make it move, but touching the ball causes players to fall down. It takes players a dozen times or so to reach the end of the level. Combine this with extreme delay jurassic world The levels seem to suffer, and players will have no desire to replay them.

Unfortunately, unlocking Funko FusionThe secret characters and levels are often replaying stages that have already been completed, which only increases the replayability of the game. Taking out a page of Lego game playbook, players are encouraged to replay levels using different characters with unique abilities that can then be used to solve puzzles that were impossible to complete in the initial playthrough. In theory, it would Funko Fusion A great deal of replay value, but since the levels are already so miserable to play through, the thought of replaying them leaves one with a deep sense of dread.

The Funko Fusion boss fights are awesome

Funko FusionThe biggest problems are on full display in its brutal boss fights. Like its level, Funko Fusion Boss fights are repetitive, buggy, and often take way too long. Many bosses rely on a ground-pound attack that sends players jumping out, and in most cases, killing them is a matter of shooting weak points or filling a pipe with purple goo. Bosses are annoying because they often take too long to expose themselves to damage, and even then, some of them take so long to kill that players start to question if the game is bugged.

But while Funko FusionWhile the boss fights are terrible, 10:10 Games, to its credit, has already made some major improvements compared to what they were when the game launched. the latter Funko Fusion The update rebalanced some boss fights to make them more tolerable, mainly by doing away with constantly respawning enemies. Before updating, Funko Fusion Players not only had to deal with bosses, but in some cases, an endless barrage of enemies that made it difficult to focus on combat. These enemies also often disrupt potion animations, making buffs more frustrating than needing to heal or activate them. post-update, Funko FusionThe boss battles are definitely improved, although their core design is still lacking.

There is a fight at the end of the final boss Funko Fusion The worlds end in a kaiju-like battle where the players don't really participate and the action appears instead, which is anti-climactic to say the least. Stories told in every world also suffer from a lack of fair wages Umbrella Academy The world is one of the worst offenders. Its first two missions tell the story of Season 1, but Season 2 is mostly skipped, and then the last couple of levels take place in Season 3. It is impossible to follow or care. Funko Fusion seeks to imitate Lego The game's slapstick way of retelling stories, but it's a bad imitation.

Funko Fusion
The latest balance update has also improved progression, so players can unlock new worlds faster and reach the final boss without having to complete all the bonus levels.

From its unique cutscenes to its general concept, Funko Fusion Often comes as an off-brand Lego the game It tries to replicate something like the fun of hitting every object in the scene, but delivers less satisfactorily because most objects players can hit don't break. Most of the time they bounce, spin, and shoot little orbs that work Funko Fusioncurrency of Players can use said money in machines scattered throughout the levels to obtain healing items and weapons, as well as generate vital items needed to pass any stage. I think it should be Funko FusionEquivalent of buildable items in Lego Games, but in other ways as well Funko Fusion tries to copy Lego Games, it doesn't generate the same excitement.

A defining characteristic of Lego The games have co-op support. Predictably, Funko Fusion Co-op was confirmed long ago, but it's not available in the game as of the time of this writing. Funko Fusion is getting online co-op in October, but having such a major feature unavailable at launch is a head-scratching decision indeed. Anyone willing to play through Funko Fusion By the time the game has co-op it will have already done so, and the levels aren't nearly as fun to justify playing through them again with a friend.

Funko Fusion Its interesting concept fumbles with barrel-of-barrel gameplay, and it's hard to see how co-op could make it more bearable. As mentioned, the game's latest balance update is Made it at least a little better, and so maybe future updates will make a bigger difference than expected.

Funko Fusion Available for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, with Switch and PS4 versions launching on November 15th. PC code was provided for this review.
