Genshin Impact may be using your voice chat to train AI models

Genshin Impact's privacy policy states that voice comms may be used to train AI models. The policy was last updated on January 14, 2026, where the previous section was changed. As spotted by Cevian on Bluesky (via Eurogamer ), the new section falls under the 'why we collect and process your personal data' section of the policy.

“Where applicable, our Services may provide voice-based chat functions that allow users to communicate with others in real time using voice,” the preceding clause said. “If you choose to use such features, we may process voice communications data for the purposes described in Section 2 and Section 13 of this Privacy Policy, including providing communications services, maintaining service security and stability, moderating content, and complying with applicable laws and regulations.” It has changed since then.

“Like many AI-powered experiences, we may use your user-generated input, such as chat data, to train and improve the models we use to provide our Services. You may opt-out of model training at any time in your Service-related settings. Opting out will not affect your existing gameplay,” the new clause says.

This is a very big change to the privacy policy, and MiHoYo has done it very quietly. In fact, the comments on Savion's post noted that someone tried to bring it up on the Genshin Impact subreddit, only to have their post deleted by the moderators.

Whatever AI trained in voice comms will do, it won't necessarily be malicious. Perhaps the AI will be trained to automatically report player chat and toxic behavior, as mentioned in Sections 2 and 13. Still, given the current sentiment that AI is embedded in the industry, something like this is worth making a big announcement about.
