Grand Theft Auto Online pokes fun at 12 years of building a mile high skyscraper

GTA Online players have had the Mile High Club Skyscraper for at least 12 years (or 240, if you consider that a GTA day is 48 minutes long), and it's a running joke that it will never end. Franklin is prepared to try and explain all sorts of theories, from killing the Gold Coast CEO, bankrupting his business and stopping everything from workers dying on the job to construction workers on permanent strike.

I'm under the impression that this skyscraper is a theme park where people can pay to pretend to be construction workers.

The real answer is, of course, it's a video game. Many missions in GTA 5 and Online require the site to be under construction, and rebuilding an entire section of the map is no small feat, especially as Rockstar is now focused on getting Grand Theft Auto 6 out the door. But that hasn't stopped these types of theories from running to the point that it's even referenced in games.

“They're sure not going to use this stuff to build that skyscraper”

As pointed out by u/Original-Slide4454 , the newly introduced listing mission tasks you with stealing building materials from the Mile High Club, earning you a discount when they arrive in the next update. During this mission, Raph quips, “I don't know why they're so pi**ed! They're sure not going to use this material to build a skyscraper!”

So, even in-universe, it's a joke that it's the Mile High Club ever The construction is about to be completed.

Odds are, when GTA 6 rolls around and we move into the next iteration of Online, the building won't be finished yet – again, this is a video game, and variety between levels keeps things fresh. But some fans are still clinging to the hope that the final update for GTA 5 will remove the scaffolding and reveal… a bug-standard office building, thanks everyone for playing a nice little banner.
