The 1.0 launch of Hades 2 finally revealed the game's true ending, Which I won't spoil here. Like the first title, Melino needs to complete multiple runs of the underworld and surface path to see the final ending and rid the world of the time tyrant Kronos. Unfortunately, this true ending did not meet the expectations of the fans.
With the amount of grinding required on two separate fronts, players were hoping to conclude that the game didn't really deliver. Much like the story of Hypnos, many plot points were also left unresolved. To remedy this lack of a satisfying ending, Supergiant has changed things up in its first patch since the game's full launch.
Heads 2 Patch 1 changes the true ending
The patch notes for the update reveal several changes and balances to blessings and boons, but the stand-out change is arguably the revised version of the original ending. Supergiant isn't shy about changing it up after getting Backlash Heads 2 for its true ending, and it's even added a feature that lets you experience it without grinding again.
“Added new events leading up to the True Ending, and some later,” the patch notes say. “As part of this, the number of underworld clears required was increased, and parts of the main True Ending scenes before the final credits were added and modified. Note: Most of the changes are to the underworld route; the surface route is mostly unchanged.”
The update also introduces a new Cauldron Incantation that allows you to return to an earlier point in the story and experience new changes to the actual ending along with other interactions. The change is not only in the ending cinematic, but also in many pre-interactions to make it more satisfying.
While Supergiant is known for constantly improving its game, changing the entire actual ending after fan feedback is a big decision that is much appreciated. Fans on Reddit have welcomed this update, especially after feeling a bit burnt out from the previous version. You can be sure that Hades 2's player count will continue to grow after this.
The new real ending is only available as a preview for now, so you can expect more improvements over time (heh).
