Highguard is finally here, and to say the game's launch was a bit of a wet fart would be an understatement. Things started promisingly, as the game launched on Steam with around 100,000 players, but a bombardment of negative reviews and a slew of launch issues have seen the game's player base tank to a tenth of that.
To be fair to Highguard, it was very surprising that the game managed to pull in 100,000 players, the game's only advertiser was Geoff Keighley. The game's biggest draw was that it was made by the same people involved in the creation of Apex Legends and Titanfall, and Highguard has been very open about that fact, using it to advertise the game on its Steam page.
However, now that the game has been released, Hygard seems a little less keen on telling people it has links to Apex and Titanfall, as mentions of both games have been scrubbed from its Steam page.
Highguard removes Apex Legends and Titanfall nodes from its Steam page
First noticed by Kotaku, Highguard's Steam description appears to have changed since the game's launch. Before launching, read HighGuard's Steam description:
From the creators of “ Apex Legends and Titanfallcomes Highguard: A PvP raid shooter where players will ride, fight and attack as Wardens, mysterious gunmen sent to fight for control of a legendary continent.
I was hoping to find something positive about Highguard Online, but the internet seems to hate it
“It's free, and I still want it back.”
It now reads:
“Highguard is a PvP raid shooter where players will ride, fight, and attack as Wardens, mysterious gunmen sent to fight for control of a legendary continent.”
You can actually see the change documented on SteamDB, which proves it's real, but the biggest question surrounding the whole thing is why the change was made. Of course, the creators of Highguard didn't mention this at all, so we don't know if this was an act of selflessness, an attempt to prevent comparisons, or if EA or Respawn had higher ops orders and tried to distance themselves from a game. Either way, it's a slightly odd tweak to a slightly odd game, and we probably won't figure out why.
