Hit the Jackpot — Borderlands 4's DLC Vault Hunter is a golden opportunity that can't be ignored

Border 4 It may have been well-received when it launched, but it has struggled to engage players since its release. Its open world makes for an engaging first playthrough, but going back through all the side activities tends to slog a bit on repeat playthroughs. Divisive balance changes, frustrating events like Kairos' horror, and a very flat post-game experience have all contributed to the game's downfall. Fortunately, Q1 of 2026 (January-March) is bringing the first Border 4 expansion and, more importantly, the new Vault Hunter C4SH, which will hopefully win back some lost fans. And in addition to this core content, a fun side activity can make a big difference.

Currently, information on C4SH is somewhat limited, but what is there is interesting. New Border 4 Vault Hunter is a mysterious FL4K-like robot with a cowboy-like aesthetic. His kit is intentionally designed to be unpredictable, with players gambling on dice rolls for increased action skill power. FL4K seems to be another attempt at a Claptrap-like character, making him a secondary luck-based character, but unlike Claptrap he has a positive upside if luck favors the players. But perhaps the most promising thing about this new character is that, before becoming a rebel in Kairos, C4SH was a casino dealer. This opens the door for Gearbox to reintroduce a simple mechanic that fans have sorely missed: slot machines.

  • iridium

  • Character Skins

  • Weapons of all rare levels

  • A grenade that will instantly take down players if they are too close

The chase was exciting, though, and it was as satisfying as getting a skin for your Vault Hunter from the machine. While they may not seem like an essential feature, for many, they are a defining feature border area'Hub areas. There was a real sense of disappointment when arriving at Kairos' Moxy's bar and finding that only the tip jar had returned. Although this jar is also iconic, having two unique activities at Moxxi's establishments ensures that they are always worth a visit. It doesn't take long to get his two special guns through the tip jar, so having something else to chase is welcome.

with Border 4With co-op and loot-heavy gameplay, it's great to have something to do when players in a group need to sort through their loot or take a quick break. Slot machines have always been an ideal timekiller, as players can spin the machine a few times while they wait for their friend to get ready for the next battle. yes, Border 4's open world focus means that players aren't trapped in a hub like Sanctuary and can shoot and loot while their partners in crime are away, but that doesn't mean slot machines shouldn't be a part of the game anymore. They're a clear case of fun RNG and a nice change from the usual gameplay loop.

The arrival of C4SH is a perfect opportunity to introduce slot machines for Borderlands 4.

It's hard to think of a more perfect storm for this particular one border area Staples is set to make a comeback as a character from the past involving casinos. Perhaps Gearbox will drop some slot machines at Moxy's Kairos Bar (and other hub areas) for a themed update to match C4SH. Alternatively, maybe C4SH has a key to each area's room that lets him unlock access to the slot machines, or maybe he can canonically deconstruct the slot machines given his past. Regardless of how they're introduced, it would be great to see them come into the game alongside C4SH, as Gambling is not only the identity of the new Vault Hunter, but border area'Identity too.
