The Weavers are a tribe of spider-like creatures Hollow Knight: SilksongThe land of Ferlum which was created by the divine entity Grandmother Silk. Hollow Knight: Silksong fans are divided on whether or not Herah's head shape is a mask
Herra, however, seems nothing like what she saw from the beginning with the members of her tribe Hollow Knight: Silksong Act 2. Reddit user Whenpigfly666 recently attempted to explain this difference with what he described as a “crackpot” theory, but which has proven interesting enough to spark some lively lore debate among fans. At the center of the debate is the shape of Herra's head, with fans divided as to whether it represents an actual shell or just a mask.
The hornet seems to inherit the silhouette of its mother's head, but at the same time, is an integral part of making a mask. Hollow Knight and Silksongwhich means that both positions are defensive. The games never explicitly confirm which is correct.
Herrah's body shape is one of Silksong's little mysteries
Furthermore, whenpigfly666's theory does not attempt to explain the differences in body size between the weavers observed in Hera and Ferlum. Fans have identified several possible explanations for this discrepancy, not all of which are mutually exclusive. One, the original Hollow Knight The fact that giving birth is a difficult process for weavers, which can result in bloated herrah, makes a lot of sense. The main issue with this theory is accessing the red memory Hollow Knight: Silksong Act 3 shows Herah after giving birth, but without the big belly. It is unclear whether this discrepancy is a retcon or has a meaningful explanation.
Another possibility is that Herra's body has simply changed with age, as is common with living creatures – fictional or otherwise. In the end, her title of Weaver Queen alone might have warranted a specific design, regardless of how Team Cherry might justify it in theory.
