Iraq eyes drawdown of US-led forces starting September, sources say

BAGHDAD: Iraq wants troops from the US-led military coalition to begin withdrawing in September and formally end the coalition by September 2025, four Iraqi sources said, with some US troops likely to remain in a newly negotiated advisory capacity. The Iraqi situation is being discussed with U.S. officials at a security summit in Washington this week and no formal agreement has been reached on ending the coalition or any related timetable, Iraqi sources and U.S. officials said.
