Lego is said to be holding a competition to design its first Yu-Gi-Oh set

Lego has well and truly opened the door for any major IP, especially after landing its white Velmer, as we're now less than a month away from the launch of its first Pokemon sets. That launch could be tied to the next anime's Lego debut, as a leak has revealed plans for a potentially first-ever Yu-Gi-Oh set.

The leak appears to originate from moose.with.a.goose, but was shared by BrickTap on Reddit, a generally reliable source when it comes to Lego leaks, meaning it almost certainly carries some weight. If so, there will be a twist in Yu-Gi-Oh's long-awaited Lego introduction, as the leak claims that fans will determine what will actually be turned into Lego from the anime.

Lego wants you to design its first Yu-Gi-Oh set

Yugi transforms into Yami, the spirit of the Egyptian pharaoh in Yu-Gi-Oh.

According to the leak, Lego will hold a contest that anyone can enter, in which Yu-Gi-Oh fans will be tasked with designing a set that can be turned into a real-life, tangible product that can be mass-produced and sold to Lego-loving Yu-Gi-Oh fans worldwide. If true, you can expect an official announcement soon, ie The leaker claims the tournament will open on February 3, 2026.

Before you let your imagination run wild, the leak notes some rules and criteria that your Yu-Gi-Oh sets will have to meet if you want them to be considered. First of all, you can't pull anything from all of Yu-Gi-Oh history. Only sets based on elements from Yu-Gi-Oh's Duelist Kingdom and Battle City arcs will be considered.

Make your LEGO Yu-Gi-Oh dreams come true with under 2,000 pieces

Asterisk is the only other one we know of at this time Sets must be 2,000 pieces or less, Which, honestly, is a relief. It's been months for behemoth Lego sets that cost more than most casual fans can afford. First, there was the $1,000 Death Star that launched last year, and now there's the $650 Pokemon set, which includes Charizard, Venusaur, and Blastoise once complete.

If this Lego competition is real, and what it looks like, you need to think smaller than that, although with 2,000 pieces to play with, there's still plenty of room to get creative. Maybe we'll finally see the Yu-Gi-Oh set that didn't hit the production line in 2023 despite 10,000 votes cast through Lego Ideas, finally become a reality.

As reported by Brick Fanatics at the time, a Dark Magician vs. Blue-Eyes White Dragon set that doubles as a deck box introduced in Idea was very popular. It received 10,000 upvotes, meaning it reached the stage where Lego evaluates whether fan-made sets submitted through Ideas can become a reality. The Yu-Gi-Oh set didn't make the cut, but three years later, it looks like all Yu-Gi-Oh fans will have a chance to have their say on what they want to be the anime's first Lego set.
