The most important information to know about Skovos

  • Island chain in the south

  • Origins of Civilization in Sanctuary

  • Diverse landscapes including volcanic coasts, lush forests, and towering mountains

  • Greek-inspired design

  • Home of the matriarchal Askari society

  • Two major races: warrior Amazons and mystical oracles

Skovos has a surprisingly rich history within Diablo series, and Lord of Hatred has the ability to push all that history to the forefront of its story. Aesthetically, Skovos draws inspiration from Greek architecture, with marble columns and giant statues welcoming visitors to the islands. Place names in Skovos also have Greek-sounding names such as Philios, Temis and Atanos, which further reinforces the Greek inspiration of the place.

Geography of Skovos

Technically an island chain, Skavos is made up of many individual islands that come together to form the region as a whole. Located to the south of any of the other major tracts of the sanctuary, the major islands of Skovos include Philios, Lykander, and Skrtara, with the capital of Temis located between these islands. The environment on these islands can vary, from lush jungles to treacherous mountains and volcanic coastlines, especially in Skartara. Compared to the homogenous forest of Nahantu, the ecological diversity should make a huge difference between a vessel of hatred and a lord of hatred.

The history of Scovos begins with the creation of the Nephalem

What really makes Scovos such an interesting setting for Lord of Hatred is the origins of the Sanctuary and its role in the creation of humanity. Skovos is the oldest region of the Sanctuary and home to the first civilization, where Lilith and Inarius created the Nephalem race that would eventually evolve into the modern-day humans of the Sanctuary. After the birth of the Nephalem and the eventual creation of humanity, Scovos would become home to many factions. Diablo suffrage

The native tribe of Scovos is the Askari, the founders of the Nephalem and Angelic tribes on the islands of Philios and Lykander respectively. An important aspect of Askari society is its matriarchal nature, where men are prohibited from serving in power or the military. As such, the all-female Amazon Warriors are the primary military faction of the Askari, known as nomadic warriors who defend the seas around Scovos using bows and spears.

Another major faction within Askari society is the Oracle, which serves as a mystical counterbalance to the warrior Amazons. The oracle race is founded on the ancient Blind Eye relic, which was said to be possessed by the angel Lycandar and allows the Order to glimpse into the future. Oracles where able to use blind eyes to see the future Diabloof the Prime Evils returned, effectively predicting the Dark Exile of the Prime Evils by the Lesser Evils.

The Horadrim also have a history with the Scovos, who created the Horadric Vault in the region in the past. It is possible Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred Players will uncover this lost vault during their journey to Scovos.
