A ton of new stats were released after the end of the recent server slam for Bungie MarathonHighlighting player behavior, a staggering NPC kill rate, as well as which maps proved to be the most difficult to take down. After a long development cycle, one that also included long periods of silence, game delays, and art plagiarism accusations, Marathon Reached the light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks in large part to impressive cinematic trailers and a very well-received server slam test period, the game seems to have managed to turn even popular opinion around.
With many still curious about Bungie's breakout shooter, it was scheduled to jump into the server slam and check out the early parts of the game before it's full release. With increased marketing push as well as major curiosity factor, Marathon The server managed to garner major player numbers during Slam, as the Steam version alone was able to hit 140,000 concurrent players at launch. While the server slam was only a small piece of the overall game, players were still able to set some big numbers while playing, which Bungie has collected and shared.
Marathon offers UI and performance tweaks thanks to server slam feedback
Bungie teased some highly requested changes coming to certain Marathon features for player feedback during the Server Slam preview event.
The survival rate of marathon runners is surprisingly low
Now at the end with the server slam and Marathon Officially launching on March 5, Bungie has collected and shared heaps of data based on player behavior during the weekend session. Players were able to check out two different maps, Circumference and Dire Marsh, during Server Slam and both proved difficult to escape. The periphery had only a 41.8% exfill rate, with Dyer Marsh coming in even lower at just 35.6%. In fact, Bungie also revealed that, while rare, there were also some games where no one fired.
In the case of different runner shells MarathonThe class version of the game, it was the Sneak Assassin Shell that proved to be the most popular among players. The biggest advantage of this shell is the fact that it is also very solo-friendly, allowing players to not only become invisible for a short period of time, but also use smoke bombs to surprise enemies or quickly escape from a bad situation. Rooks were also very popular as about 1 million were deployed and more than half of that number were killed in matches.
However player feedback has generally noted a lack of PvP engagements MarathonThe numbers seem to back up a bit as 9.1 million runners were killed, while players were able to eliminate over 129 million UESC enemies. 16.5 million players died during the game as well. Just for fun, Bungie posted some stats on what kind of items players were looting, with “Premium Tick Milk” being scooped up over 145,000 times, and over 384,000 “drinkable cheeseburgers” also being taken.

With the extraction rates being so low, it's easy to wonder how difficult maps that aren't included in Server Slam will be, as both Perimeter and DIre Marsh are still considered earlier and more basic maps. Marathon. However, this is because as players become more familiar with the game's interactions and earn better gear, survival and exfil rates should improve. Anyway, Bungie is teasing a night mode for Dire Marsh Inn Marathon Season 2, after wiping the server, things can spiral again. Also, with the Cryo Archive map on board the UESC Marathon ship and difficult enemies stalking the abandoned vessel, it will be interesting to see how much effort successful players will put in to extract valuable loot.
