Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Players will encounter the Karvex boss in the Garden of Remembrance area of Fury Green. This is the game's second major boss fight, and, like Aberax before it, those hoping to defeat Carvex will need to use skills learned a little earlier in the game.
Every Metroid game ever made, ranked from worst to best
Unlike other Nintendo properties, Metroid games vary greatly in quality, and we've ranked each game in the series from worst to best.
The key to beating Carvex is to expose its core, which can be done by destroying all of its tentacles at the same time. During the first phase of the fight, it's relatively straightforward, but after several tentacles begin to sprout, some Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Players begin to struggle. Thankfully, Carvex isn't too hard to beat.
How to beat Carvex in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
To damage Carvex, players will first need to destroy its tentacles and expose its core. At first, they'll only have one tentacle to worry about, but as the fight progresses, two more tentacles will sprout. Tentacles respawn a second or two after being destroyed, so players have to find a way out Destroy all of Carvex's tentacles at the same time. The solution, of course, is that Samus has just acquired control beam.
To use Control Beam, players must press X to switch to Psychic Visor and then hold A or ZR to charge up their attack. When they release the button, Samus will fire a purple beam that can be controlled with the right analog stick or motion controls. The purpose here is Guide the beam through the weak spot between each tentacle without hitting any obstacles. If all goes to plan, Carvex's core will be exposed, allowing players to start blasting away.
Players should take a moment to scan the Cavex before it disappears. That said, if they forgot to do that, they would be able to get the log file for Karvex from the Guardians area sanctum a little later.
It is important to note that before using the control beam, players will need Use Samus' regular blaster to destroy the outer sheath that protects the weak spot of each tentacle. Shooting the weak spot too many times after exposing it will destroy the tentacle, so players must be sure to stop firing after clearing the spikes. If they destroy the tentacle too soon, they need to wait for it to recover and then try again.
During the first phase of the Carvex fight, there is only one tentacle. The next two stages have two and three tentacles respectively, while the final stage has three tentacles and vine walls that players need to navigate through a control beam. When they're not busy destroying Karvex's tentacles, players will have to focus on dodging them, which they can do by strafing from left to right or jumping while using its spin attack.
To destroy the core, missiles are the best option here. Players can obtain additional missiles by destroying the spinning metal orbs that Carvex occasionally throws out. As an added bonus, charging up the control beam will automatically deflect any nearby missiles or energy balls. After enough missiles, the boss will eventually go down, and players will get a psychic bomb as a reward for their troubles.
