Modulo failed as a sequel

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is a sequel series to Gege Akutami's magnum opus, Jujutsu Kaisen. Set 68 years after the conclusion of the original's Shinjuku Showdown arc JJK series, Modulo sees the focus on an entirely new cast of characters instead of Yuji Itadori, Megumi Fushiguro and Nobara Kogisaki.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo focuses on Tsurugi and Yuka Okkotsu, the grandchildren of Yuta and Maki. Furthermore, the alien race of the Simurians is introduced into the plot, and among them are the other two main characters of the series, Maru and Cross. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is an incredibly exciting series, and it goes without saying that Gage wrote a phenomenal story in it. But, as is the case with the vast majority of stories, it certainly had its own failings. As a sequel, JJK Modulo hammered home most of the themes it covered and the plot points it showcased, but failed to draw a solid conclusion to most of them.

Failure to give conclusion Dabura Vs Mahoraga

The biggest battle was not resolved

Dabura vs Mahoraga Bad Ending Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo

The biggest way JJK Modulo failed at the end was in providing a proper sequel to the biggest battle of the entire series, that is, Mahoraga vs. Dabura. To decide the fate of humanity itself, a duel between Yuka Okkotsu and Dabura Karaba was set. Yuka immediately used his 10 Shadow Technique to summon the Divine General Mahoraga and release him at Dabura.

Their conflict was quite exciting, and throughout, readers were treated to a great display of tenacity and adaptability from Mahorga, as well as adaptability and a tough work ethic from Dabura. The latter managed to create new ways to use his curse technique to defeat Mahoraga's adaptations and even learned things like the Reverse Cursed Technique. On top of that, he also mastered Cursed Technique Reversal and came up with Domain Expansion. It was all ultimately wasted because their duel was never consummated. Maru used his cursed technique to take Dabura out of the battle and send him back to Simuria with his sister, never to be seen again. It's one of the most unsatisfying conclusions any fight in JJK has ever had, and it's also a sad ending for Dabura's character.

Failed to give Yuji Itadori a good role

Yuji only served as a plot device for Maru's technique

Yuji Plot Device bad return jujutsu kaisen modulo

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Yuji reintroduces Itadori towards the end of the story. Soon after his arrival, it became clear that he intended to bring peace to the warring races of humans and Simurians. Yuji did this by coming into contact with Maru and devising a way to completely end the cursed souls. While this plot point built up a lot, it didn't deliver in the end. Yuji's decision resulted in the cursed energy being stripped from both future Simurians and humans, leaving them with only traces of these powers. Meanwhile, the birth of cursed souls stopped to the extent that only a few were born each year.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Disappointing Update Part 2

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 received a disappointing update for Part 2

JJK season 3 received a major update which may lead to a major drop in the quality of part 2.

As for Yuji Itadori himself, the whole point was to serve as a plot device for Maru to accomplish all this. Once Yuji gave Maru the necessary information, he was on his way. To make matters worse, Yuji Itadori was revealed to have completely changed as an adult. Although the changes in characters are normal, Yuji completely cuts off his friends and everyone else in society. He became somewhat cynical and completely misinterpreted Gozo's words to him, even refusing to protect the next generation. Most importantly, fans expected Yuji Itadori to fight against Dabura Karaba modulo series, but unfortunately, this battle never materialized. Yuji only showed his powers briefly, and many readers were disappointed with the little he had to offer in this story.

All events could not set it up

Too much of a jump to a conclusion

Quick Conclusion Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo

The biggest failure of JJK Modulo Due to its short length is the fact that most of the plot points it sets up do not reach a proper conclusion. While modulo Well written, the ending felt very rushed. Fights were cut short and plot points were left out entirely. For example, Dabura and Mahoraga's battle could have been given a few more chapters and explained better, even if it had to be interrupted midway down the line. Likewise, Dabura getting the black rope could have been its own stand-alone chapter with more emotional impact.

Even Yuji Itadori's arrival on the battlefield could have been fleshed out more. Maru saving the lives of Usami, Yuka, and Tsurugi could also take two chapters with his own brother Cross. Most importantly, the union between the humans and Simurians would have felt much stronger had Gage given more time to this plot point and allowed fans to absorb it. In the end, it was all rushed due to the broken nature of Maru's cursed technique. It became the greatest plot device for the author to do with in any way he wanted. That was the biggest drawback JJK ModuloWhich was otherwise an absolutely fantastic series.

Lots of death fakeouts

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo not delivered in death

Death Fakeouts Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Image by Manga Plus

Another thing that JJK Modulo Death was a struggle with fakes. In general, Gege Akutami is known for not being too afraid to kill characters. In the original story, he killed Junpei almost immediately, when fans thought he would be the main character. Similarly, Nanami, one of the most important characters, was killed off soon after, and Gozo Satoru also met a swift end towards the end of the series. As such, Gege Akutami has never been afraid to kill off his main characters.

However, in JJK ModuloFor some reason, Gage was hesitant to kill off characters, but set up their deaths properly. Maru's own brother Cross was shot in the chest and it was made clear that even using the power of the Reverse Cursed Technique could not save him. Two months had passed since Cross's shooting, and somehow, Maru managed to save her with passive transformation powers. Either way, Cross doesn't have to survive this streak.

Also, Yuka was diagnosed with a brain tumor, and on top of that, her condition had worsened due to her compulsive vows. However, Maru was able to save her once again with the power of passive transformation he received from Mahito. Tsurugi was dealt a fatal blow, and this time too, Idle Transfiguration came to the rescue and saved his life. Meanwhile, Usami is heavily damaged in a confrontation with Dabura and is also saved by Maru. Maru's technique seemed to be able to do anything, and all the tension that Gage had built into the story with impending doom vanished instantly with a stroke of the pen.

To be clear, Yuka and Tsurugi's survival was important to the plot, and it makes sense for them to survive. However, Cross had been dead for almost two months, and while Usami suffered the same fate, miraculously bringing him back at the end felt pretty cheap. If Gage had stuck to his old method and killed off some of the characters, the ending would have been much stronger.

Jujutsu Kaisen is available to read on Modulo Manga Plus.
