Nintendo isn't going live normally until June, the insider claims

A new classic-style Star Fox game and remake of The Legend of Zelda claims insider NetHate: Ocarina of Time is the talk of the industry town today, and for good reason. Both are coming in 2026, it is believed, and VGC's own sources have also confirmed this. For 3D Mario? 2027, in fact.

What has gone under the radar relative to all of these revelations is that those same insiders state that we won't be seeing Nintendo General Direct until June. What is a normal direct? And why is it different? Here's what's going on.

Generally speaking

When we talk about “general instructions,” we're talking about the biggest of the bunch. Partner Directs give third-party publishers a chance to show off what they've got in the works for Nintendo's devices. Mini Directs are similar to regular Directs, but they clock in at a much shorter runtime, and they don't feature major announcements that drive fans wild. And then there are the direct ones for specific games (or movies, more recently).

But a normal live? That's usually 40+ minutes, sometimes an hour or more, and it's bound to feature at least a handful of big-budget first-party fare that gets people talking for months. System-vendors make their presence known during such events. To put it bluntly, Nintendo fans want as much general guidance as possible, and they want it now.

NateTheHate, however, has heard that we won't see another one until June. They tend to be quite leisurely, mind you, so it's not really out of the ordinary. At this point — late March, as of this writing — I figured if we didn't see one by mid-April, we'd probably be waiting this long.

The Antony star is not as enthusiastic about playing Albert Wesker as he once made out to be, suggesting that fans only wanted him because he was white.

Besides, which is a summer sports festival. It's the home of the former E3. Sony, Microsoft, Capcom, Square Enix, Naughty Dog, and the rest are all making their case for why we should keep buying their games. This is when the trilogy-capping epic Final Fantasy 7 remake is generally expected to appear. And Nintendo never loses. Since the dawn of Direct over a decade ago, House of Mario has swung for bars. 2026 will be no different.

What can we see? Those aforementioned rumored games, the Star Fox title and the Ocarina of Time remake, are definitely up for grabs. Fire Emblem: The Weave of Fate is another. Plus, you know, lots of stuff that someone allegedly leaked, including what's sure to be at least one left-field surprise. Because someone said, “Wait, what?” Like Nintendo.
