Hoenn brought various new mechanics to the area Pokemon Franchise, from competition to abilities. However, it introduced fans to many amazing Pokémon that are still beloved today. Such Pokemon include the legendary Fire/Fighting-type starter Pokemon Blaziken, the elusive Dark-type Absol, and the kind Psychic/Fairy-type Gardevoir.
In the games, manga, and animated series, the Ash Hoenn region features many great trainers, who work alongside the region's popular Pokémon. Some, like May, are still at the beginning of their journey, but quickly become the best fighters in the field. Others, like Wallace, are already seasoned trainers, only becoming more amazing as time goes on.

Ash can evolve into a great trainer with his help
One can also discover his passion for Pokemon tournaments
After a terrifying incident at sea, a young May begins to dislike Pokémon, thus missing out on opportunities to learn about the amazing creatures that inhabit her world. Years later, when May is old enough to become a trainer, she no longer likes Pokémon, but discovers that she has a lot to learn about training her new partner Pokémon, Torchic. At first May wasn't sure if she wanted to live with Pokemon. She took the opportunity to become a coach in hopes of traveling the world and finding her purpose. There is a lot of pressure on him to be the best trainer because of his father, the Petalburg City Gym Leader.
Thankfully, May soon befriends Ash and Brock, with the former acting as her main mentor in taking care of the Pokémon. The young trainer also discovered the concept of Pokemon tournaments during her travels, a way to perform simultaneously while battling. In the present, May is now a top Pokemon Coordinator, and her partner Pokemon has since evolved into a powerful Blaziken. May also worked with other Pokemon coordinators and Pokemon artists such as Dawn from the Sinnoh region and Serena from the Kalos region.

Norman is the designated Petalburg City Gym Leader
A hot-headed trainer who is loyal to the general type
Although the player characters live near Petalburg City, they are unable to challenge the Petalburg City Gym Leader until later in the original Generation III games and their remakes. The gym leader is also their father, Norman, a famous Normal-type Pokémon trainer. Normal-type, compared to other types such as Dragon-type and Fire-type, is not popular. However, Norman and his Pokemon, especially his Ace Slacking, pack a powerful punch.
In the anime in particular, Norman is shown as a good-hearted but often reckless individual, with a tendency to lose his temper easily. His desire to protect his family is also evident in his passion to fight, especially if they are in trouble. As in the games, Norman's Slaking is his best Pokemon, unique for its vitality compared to the rest of its species. In addition to his ace, he also has Slakoth and Vigoroth, the latter of which was able to defeat one of Rocket's many mechas.

Drake Hoenn is the final member of the Elite Four
Fearsome Dragon-type master
The Hoenn Elite Four is one of the most recognizable Elite Four rosters, and for good reason. Whether facing off against Phoebe and her wily Bannet or Glassia and her powerhouse Walren, the Hoenn Elite Four can certainly be a challenge. The fourth member of the Hoenn Elite Four, Drake, is often regarded as the most powerful member due to his amazing Dragon-type Pokémon. According to his match call in Pokemon EmeraldDrake is loyal to the dragon-type because they once saved his life.
In the anime and games, Drake's Ace Pokémon is Salamence, a swift dragon Pokémon. Overconfident after several successful battles, Ash is later easily defeated by Drake's Pokémon, regaining his humility in the process. Salamance was also the key to Ash's saving Pikachu in the episode “Vanity Affair”, another moment where Team Rocket tried to steal the Mouse Pokémon. When his Pokémon aren't fighting, they're often sailing the seas with Drake, who also has a whole crew of sailors following his quests.

During his animated debut, Ash and his friends quickly learn that Juan is not a trainer to mess with, as he easily sends Team Rocket high into the sky. Later, Ash decides to challenge Juan and his Pokémon to a battle so that he can obtain the Ren Badge and thus qualify for the Ever Grande Conference. The battle was certainly not easy, as Juan's Pokemon, including the exceptionally fast Luvdisc and the elegant Milotic, were able to take out many of Ash's Pokemon. In the end, however, Ash was successful in his Gym Battle, thus earning the coveted Rain Badge.

Wallace is a Pokemon Coordinator and Water-type Master
He is also an occasional champion of the region
in Pokemon EmeraldThe player learns that Steven Stone, the trainer who usually plays the role of champion in the Hoenn region, wants to spend more time researching rare minerals. Instead, the champion is Water-type Trainer Wallace, who usually serves as the Gym Leader of the Sotopolis City Gym. Like his former teacher, Juan, Wallace is a Pokémon Coordinator, and loves working with Pokémon that are both beautiful and powerful. His ace is Milotic, a Pokemon that evolves from the often-overlooked water-type Feebas.
During Ash's adventures in the Sinnoh region, Wallace is revealed to be the current Hoen Champion. Although he is well aware of his fame, Wallace remains a rather private person, although he is mildly insulted. Pokemon Journey: The Series When Ash couldn't recognize him. Wallace, naturally, had a prominent role during the Wallace Cup, where he first demonstrated what a dynamic pair he was with his Milotic. The majestic water-type remains one of the most beautiful fighters in the series, although Wallace also features the mighty Walren and Swampert on his roster.
The champion is never seen without his awesome Metagross
For the most part, Steven Stone acts as Hoenn's champion, thus being recognized as the strongest trainer in the field. A devoted fan of rocks and rare jewels, Steven's team reflects this, as all of his Pokemon are Rock-type, Ground-type, and Steel-type. For the most part, however, Steven is most recognized as a Steel-type trainer due to his ace, Metagross. Although Iron Leg Pokémon alternates between normal Pokémon and Shiny Pokémon, it always prevails as the crown jewel of Steven's roster.
Metagross and Steven were already a legendary duo before the debut of Generation VI, but the power of Mega Evolution only made them even stronger. In addition to their roles during the Masters Eight Tournament, Steven and Metagross also had major supporting roles in the Mega Evolution Special, working alongside the Kalos arc of the original anime. In the second Mega Evolution Special, Steven summoned Allen's Charizard and Mega Rayquaza to fight as well. Later, in the following Mega Evolution Special, it saves Marin and an unconscious Allen as Primal Kyogre and Primal Groudon wreak havoc.
