Pokemon Pokopia, Wind, and Waves Have Started a New Pikachu Trend, and I Absolutely Hate It

Pokemon Pokopia The first Switch 2 native is already a huge success Pokemon game in the series, and fans are hoping it's a good sign for what's to come with Gen 10. Pokemon wind and waves. While only time will tell Pokemon wind and waves will manage to live up to the standards set by PokopiaThere is already a strange connection between these games, and it has everything to do with Pikachu. Now, before I get into it, it's important to note a few things. I like Pikachu a lot. It might not be my favorite Pokemon or even close to it, but I've been playing these games since I was a kid, so Pikachu is just iconic to me.

I'm a grown woman in my thirties, and I still cry when I find out that Ash and (more importantly) Pikachu are leaving animation after so long. I don't watch anime regularly either. So, while Pikachu may not be my absolute favorite, I have a lot of love for the electric critter. Not only that, I love it Pokemon Pokopia's Peakychu – It's a clever name, it's an adorable-looking version of Pikachu, and it has an eye-watering background story. However, it gave way to some Pokemon wind and waves New Pikachu is taking it to extremes with variants and names, and that's something I strongly dislike.

Pokemon Winds and Waves has gone a long way with Pikachu variants

Pokemon wind and waves The leak pointed to a strong theme of weather-based moves and Legendary Mons, to the point that the Gen 10 box Legendaries are leaked to be “Wind Grandfather and Wave Grandmother”. I don't know how this actually happens in the game, but it's probably not a coincidence that we have two more versions of Pikachu called Windychu and Wavychu, with the former being a male Pikachu and the latter being a female, as seen by their tails.

Aside from possible connections to legends, Mr. Windichu and Ms. Wavichu are actual characters in Gen 10 that players will interact with and who will be part of the overall adventure. Pokemon wind and waves'Area. I actually like the idea of Pokemon being part of the story, but these two only have Peakychu more than twice, all in the span of two games. While Pikachu can be written off as a convergent species of Pikachu, Convergent Pokémon retain parts of the original name and sound similar to it, Windichu and Wavichu show that this is a trend rather than a one-time gimmick.

Convergence species in Pokemon Scarlet and Purple were:

  • Wiglett: Water-type version of Diglett
  • Wugtrio: Water-type version of Dugtrio
  • Toad School: Ground/Grass-type version of Tentacool
  • foot foot: Ground/Grass-type version of Tentacruel

The concept of convergent Pokémon, called “territorial fake” by early Gen 9 leaks, was also interesting because of the opposition of types: Diglett's ground-type is water, Tentacool's water is ground, and its poison-type is grass. However, Peakychu is still the electric type.

Pikachu's new forms are repeating the worst sins of Pokemon Sword and Shield

My issue is that the names might be a bit too funny and on the nose if this trend picks up, and I really hope it doesn't. It reduces the value of converged species using random names for Pikachu, and if they aren't proper new forms but just cosmetic variants, I don't always see the value in changing names. Pokemon PokopiaNew Forms does all of this, and while I'm all for it in a spin-off game or the occasional mainline game, I don't think it's a good idea to make the concept all-encompassing.

I mean, come on. Mr. Windichu and Ms. Vavichu sound ridiculously bad to me, and potentially worse than my least favorite characters in the series, which were Swordsword and Shilbert. The names, the stories, the designs, they didn't really appeal to me in any way, and I thought they were an unnecessary addition – especially given Gen 8's not-so-great plot and “villain” reveal. That's one reason why I think so Pokemon Scarlet and Purple Some are excellent Pokemon Games always tried to find a more meaningful, deeper story at their core, and they succeeded.

The story of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet already feels impossibly standard with Windichu and Wavichu.

So, to go from Arven's tragic story, Team Star's struggle with bullying, Namona's insecurities and loneliness, to Mr. Windichu and Ms. Vavichu feels like a slap in the face to me. I love Peakychu, and I think the idea has merit, but making it a trend for Pikachu and possibly other mons will probably lead to overuse and saturation of what makes certain Pokemon unique and beautiful. Imagine another Charizard form called “Memoryizard” and it's an older Charizard that needs help remembering the events of the story. In theory, anything like this could work, and it has the potential to be fun; It's world-building after all, but it's also a bit forced and unnatural.

in Pokemon wind and waves Teraleak is a so-called “majin” battle gimmick, which allegedly makes certain Pokemon stronger and deformed by the weather. If that's the case, then having a Pokemon with a name made up as a big part of the story by its trainer is perfectly fine and natural for the series, but pairing tanned versions of Pikachu with human clothing and calling them Mr. Windichu and Ms. Wavichu seems very awkward to me. I guess we'll see, but so far, I'm not impressed, pleased, or entertained.
