Red Dead Redemption 2's current-gen update is still happening, insiders claim

A reliable insider has claimed that the long-rumored enhanced version of Red Dead Redemption 2 is still in the works, despite some fearing that the rumors were actually about a new remaster of the original game.

For a while now, it has been rumored that Red Dead Redemption 2 is finally going to get an enhanced version for current-gen consoles, which fans have been begging for forever since the PS5 and Xbox dropped the series. Those rumors have been backed up by several insiders, but the whole situation took a strange turn yesterday.

Out of nowhere, Rockstar surprised us all by announcing another remaster for the original Red Dead Redemption, which is getting a native version on PS5, Xbox Series, and Switch 2. Which led many to assume that the rumors were actually about a remaster, but that's clearly not the case.

That GTA 6 gap has to be filled somehow

As pointed out by Insider Gaming, reliable gaming insider NateTheHate was recently asked on Twitter about the Red Dead Redemption 2 current gen update. When it was questioned if the remaster rumors were about the original Red Dead Redemption, NateTheHate confirmed that they were “specifically” referring to Red Dead Redemption 2.

This already makes it clear that the rumors are separate, but NateTheHate shared a little more information in another tweet suggesting that they may be false. NateTheHate clarified that they were told that Red Dead Redemption 2 Enhanced Edition will arrive “a few months after” the launch of Switch 2, which they were told in early 2025.

Nate states that Grand Theft Auto 6 has been delayed twice since then and that Rockstar “does what they want”, suggesting that the release timeline may have changed. With all this in mind, it sounds like a Red Dead Redemption 2 upgrade is still on the way, and has just been pushed back with GTA 6. It looks like we'll have to wait until next year to find out and finally put the rumors to rest.
