It's official: with the launch of its final DLC, Kingdom Come: Redemption 2The story has ended, and with it, the wider story of the whole Kingdom Come: Redemption the story When the first game in the series was released in 2018, it brought a level of realism to the RPG space that few games had ever dared to explore, to the point that it was largely misunderstood. It boasted unforgiving, clunky gameplay mechanics in a commitment to that realism, essentially making it more of a cult classic than a global phenomenon. After that Kingdom Come: Redemption 2 took the mantle in early 2025, and perceptions of the series began to change.
With more accessible gameplay, vastly upgraded visuals, and a much larger and improved world to explore, Kingdom Come: Redemption 2 Not only has solidified itself as one of the best games of 2025, but the top-tier RPG in the industry at large. While its commitment to authenticity still works against its universal appeal, it has done what it can to create the iconic world and systems of Warhorse Studios. Kingdom Come: Redemption Greater adaptability to newcomers and casuals has broadened its reach far beyond what its predecessor managed.
Unfortunately, as all things must eventually come to an end, so does the story Kingdom Come: Redemption With the release of the second game's Mysteria Ecclesiae DLC. As confirmed by both Warhorse and the voice of Henry of Schalitz, Tom McKay, Henry's story begins with the first. Kingdom Come: Redemption Now is a closed book that may never be opened again. However, it is a sad day Kingdom Come: RedemptionWarhorse remains excited about the future and the possibilities it presents as it moves into the next phase. The only question is what the next step will be, although the developer's best path already seems clear.
The Kingdom Come franchise doesn't have to die with KCD2
During a preview event for Kingdom Come: Redemption 2of the final DLC, Warhorse Communications Director Tobi Stolz-Zwilling said, “We, at Warhorse Studios, feel completely at home in the RPG genre. We want to establish ourselves as the new king of RPGs. We believe that we have our own formulas here, and we define them in a unique way, and our next project RPG will go in that direction.” So, with that, Warhorse's next leg forward will surely be in the same “immersive RPG” arena. Kingdom Come: Redemption has been
But what does that mean? KCDIn particular, something is up in the air – or so it seems. No need to die with Warhorse's acclaimed franchise Kingdom Come: Redemption 2And the argument for that lies in the game's title, as well as its predecessor's. Notably, “Kingdom Come” in the name appears before the colon in both series games, with “Deliverance” following that colon. Sometimes, games do this to indicate that the core IP is meant to keep a single protagonist or storyline alive. In other words, the subtitle identifies the specific chapter, while the preamble identifies the franchise itself.
Many studios have done this and had success with it. Techland kept “Dying Light” as the franchise banner even after the first game Dying Light 2: Stay Human Kyle Crane's story hasn't turned around. Moved between heroes in BioWare Dragon Age Protecting the universal identity of the world. Bethesda has also used subtitles to let individual entries stand alone, contributing to a larger legacy. Warhorse's adoption of the same structure with “Kingdom Come” strongly suggests that it may serve as an umbrella title for what comes after, even if it completely moves on from Henry.
Themes Future come to the kingdom Games can still explore:
-
Life and political power changed under medieval authority
-
The tension between faith, superstition, and everyday existence
-
Cultural and regional diversity throughout historical Europe
-
The stories of ordinary people like Henry are caught up in major events
This is especially relevant because of the meaning of “kingdom come”. In medieval contexts, it refers to a period shaped by sovereignty, divine command, and the cultural weight of Christianity. Using “Kingdom Come” as the primary brand gives Warhorse more flexibility to move into new heroes or new areas while maintaining the same themes that have been present. Kingdom Come: Redemption. With that, the developer can leave Henry's story closed while preserving the identities of the players associated with them. In short, it's highly likely fans will finally be treated to another come to the kingdom The game, however, will likely feature an unknown protagonist and story.
