Resident Evil Requiem mod adds infectious zombie bites

If you've managed to breeze through Resident Evil Requiem in Insanity mode like a zombie-kiting pro, then a new mode that makes zombie bites contagious and potentially fatal might be a challenge for you.

In most zombie media, the biggest thing survivors have to worry about is getting bitten by a zombie and slowly turning into one of the undead. In Resident Evil, however, that's usually not a concern. Almost every game in the series sees its protagonists being clawed, slashed and bitten by zombies in order to survive and finally deliver an RPG to whatever big baddie it is.

To be fair, that's mostly for gameplay reasons, but it's still notable how often Leon, Grace, and every other hero get stung without consequence.

Resident Evil Requiem is no different, as Zombie Bites is just another day at the office for both Leon and Grace, who never react other than losing health and looking a little disgruntled. It makes Resident Evil Requiem a little less stressful, but if you're missing that rush, there's a cool new mode that's perfect for you.

As expected of a Resident Evil game, Requiem has managed to gather quite a modding community over the past two weeks, from silly inclusions like Shirtless Leon to incredible allies like Orphanage Skip. Perhaps the most interesting of the bunch so far, though, is what PC Gamer has highlighted as “Bytes Matter – Infection.”

As the name suggests, Bites Matter makes each zombie's signature move actually count for something other than a bit of damage. Being bitten as Leon or Grace will cause you to become infected, which slowly depletes health over time (one health point per stack) and increases if you're bitten or ignore the infection.

If that wasn't bad enough, the transitions continue to save and per character.

The only way to get rid of infection is to use healing items, but only the Med Injector will actually heal it, while green herbs will remove stacks and buy you time depending on how many you use. Considering how many people I've seen beat Requiem on Insanity mode in a matter of hours, it seems like this mod is a great way to spice things up a bit and add some serious challenge.
