The game's reveal trailer presents a unique setting that blends hard sci-fi with Japanese feudalism. The titular shogunate is depicted as a multiplanetary empire spanning the solar system, including a colonized moon, where a significant portion of SOL Shogunate takes place. Halfway through the trailer, a giant, wheel-shaped space station using rotating artificial gravity is seen. Seemingly based on NASA's Stanford Torus design, it evokes Elysium Station from the 2013 sci-fi flick starring Matt Damon and Jodie Foster, but with Japanese aesthetic elements like cherry blossoms.
