Silksong Devs think there is no point in going to game awards

Hollow Knight: Silksong had an unenviable task to live up to the hype after making fans wait for so long. Although not to the same extent, it's the same dilemma that will face GTA 6 and Half-Life 3 when (and if) they finally launch. However, it looks like Team Cherry put all that time to good use, as Silksong was well received by fans and critics alike.

While the devs may be happy with the overall result, winning game of the year at the Game Awards 2025 is a different conversation altogether. We got a lot of bangers this year, but the way things are going, even the GOTY nominees think there's no other choice than Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. In fact, Team Cherry is so sure about it that it won't be attending the awards ceremony.

Along with Hades 2, Death Stranding 2, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Silksong was nominated for Game of the Year 2025, but the devs feel there's no point in being there. They are sure that Expedition 33 will win it. Furthermore, it appears that there is still work to be done on the Silksong material.

When Bloomberg asked Team Cherry co-founder William Palin if they were going to LA for the event, his response was a casual, “Maybe. We're too busy.” Asked what would have happened if they had recorded the acceptance speech if Silksong had won, Pelen said the result was a foregone conclusion, and Campaign 33 was certainly taking it.

“But Campaign 33!” I know, I hear you.

“This year I think we're safe. I think campaign 33,” he said. “It's extraordinary and massively palatable. Whereas we're on that knife's edge, where it appeals to some and annoys others.” It's true, Silksong's difficulty is something that casual players may find a bit off-putting. Expedition 33 is no walk in the park, but it's certainly not as difficult as Team Cherry's game.

To be honest, it will be a big surprise to everyone if Claire Obscur Campaign 33 doesn't win. Maybe Team Cherry has the right idea here.
