On top of that, they also used their hands to play along with the game's soundtrack on the keyboard.

Just to make it more difficult, they then demonstrated that they could all be blindfolded.
It's back in 2025 after The Amazing Games that no matter how good you think you are at your favorite games, there's always someone out there who's better at them than you. In some cases, there are people so good that they have to invent new ways to play them to feel challenged, like this guy who plays the new Super Mario Bros. Wii with his head and legs so his hands are free. Play the game's soundtrack.
The speedrunner's name is Wes, short for Funkopotamus Wes as he goes by on Twitch. Wes has been performing what he calls a piano-fed run (thanks, Vice) since the summer of 2023. Runs require the streamer to use other parts of the body to play the game because he needs his hands free to play their background music. Mario Kart seems to be his go-to, but on Wednesday, he showed off his skills using New Super Mario Bros. on the Wii during this year's AGDQ.

Don't miss these amazing speed runs at this year's AGDQ
Live bands, gimmick controllers, and a classic Metroid Prime Race – this is going to be a great AGDQ.
Wes runs through exactly how his setup works to kick things off. A Joy-Con strapped to his head makes Mario move left and right when Wes tilts his head left or right, while tilting his head forward causes Mario to lean back and jump. The Joy-Con is strapped to his feet so he can make Mario run by pressing the trigger with his finger, and he can also make Mario jump by pressing the ball of his foot. If he needs to run and jump he is using the head controller to move.
Super Mario Bros. Wii Hands-Free
Playing its OST on the keyboard as you go
As if all that wasn't impressive enough, there's a moment during Wes' performance at AGDQ when he adds a blindfold to the mix. So from that point on, he's controlling Mario with his head and feet, playing the soundtracks for each level on the keyboard, and he can't see a thing while he's doing it. It's not just chaos on screens everywhere. He's playing the game, and playing it well.
It never ceases to amaze me the ways people invent to add new difficulty to their favorite games. Wes Speed Running Mario playing his theme tune while blindfolded might be the most inventive and impressive example I've seen since streamer MissMikkaa lost two copies of Alden Ring at the same time, one with a controller and one with a dance mat. .
