It's been a big week for Starfield. Its PS5 port is finally here, with an update that adds new content and quality of life based on player feedback. If that wasn't enough, we've also got another expansion following through Shattered Space.
Terran Armada is the second DLC release for Starfield, giving players a new campaign. And while early reviews indicated it might be a step up from Shattered Space, user scores are less optimistic, as it launched to mixed reviews on Steam.
Starfield players won't love the little Terran Armada DLC, but at least it's cheap
Many negative reviews highlight that they are happy with the content in the free update, but less so with the paid DLC. Most of the complaints revolve around the short length and how combat-oriented the expansion is, as players were expecting more story.
“I pre-ordered the $100 version of Starfield specifically for the promised DLC, trusting Bethesda's track record with the Elder Scrolls and Fallout games,” reads one review. “Now, only three hours into the Terran Armada DLC, I'm already completely bored. It's so frustrating that I'm seriously considering uninstalling Starfield for good. This will be the last time I pre-order a Bethesda game. I give this DLC a 2/10.”
“Man… parts of it were good- but damn, the overall package was weak,” says another player. “BGS needs to find out what's going on with its writers- because the writing on it…wasn't good.”
The lack of content compared to Shattered Space is reflected in the price. It's half the price of the first DLC, setting you back $9.99.
At the very least, all the new content has brought players back into the game. Yesterday, we reported that the game hit 20,000 concurrent Steam players for the first time since 2024. At the time of writing, there are 14,530 players on Steam alone, and we can expect to see what all the fuss is about back at the weekend.
It also looks like those playing on PS5 are enjoying their time with Starfield. Right now, the base game has an overall user score of 4.5/5, with Terran Armada sitting at 4.67. This could be because those on PS5 are experiencing the DLC alongside the base game if they bought it all together. Or, maybe they're happier than the Steam crowd.
