Dragon Ball Z had its fair share of transformations, especially the longer the series went on, but DBZ‘s forms have nothing on Dragon Ball Super‘s. Starting with Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, Dragon Ball Super has made a point to introduce a new transformation in basically every single saga. The number of forms in Dragon Ball Super far surpass the number of forms in Dragon Ball Z, despite the fact that DBS is a shorter series than DBZ.
Dragon Ball: 8 Characters That Were Almost Invincible
Among all the OP characters in Dragon Ball, these were almost completely invincible.
In order to distinguish itself from Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball Super‘s forms are more unique, both in terms of designs and in their usage. Dragon Ball Super‘s power scaling also means that the series’ forms are leagues stronger than anything seen in Dragon Ball Z, and are only getting stronger with each arc.

Super Saiyan Rosé Goku Black Combines God Ki, Saiyan Ki, & Kai Ki into a Lethal Mix
A chimera when it comes to Ki, Goku Black has access to God Ki, Kai Ki, and Saiyan Ki. When Goku Black tries to turn Super Saiyan Blue, his variety of Ki instead turns him into a Super Saiyan Rosé. For all intents and purposes, Super Saiyan Rosé is the same state as Super Saiyan Blue, albeit slightly stronger due to Goku Black having access to all of Goku’s powers, as well as Zamasu’a Kai training. In the Dragon Ball Super anime, Super Saiyan Rosé Goku Black effortlessly defeats Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta in their first fight.
In the Dragon Ball Super manga, Goku Black needs to unlock both regular Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan Rosé, starting at a notable disadvantage compared to his anime counterpart. In both mediums, Super Saiyan Rosé Goku Black isn’t enough to defeat the Saiyans, so he’s forced to fuse with Zamasu into Merged Zamasu.

Super Saiyan Rage Future Trunks Was Strong Enough To Defeat a Literal God
Nobody expected Future Trunks’ return in the Goku Black Saga, nor the arc’s complete downer ending where Trunks’ timeline is unceremoniously destroyed. If nothing else, Trunks at least got a new transformation out of it. After training with Vegeta for his fight against Zamasu and Goku Black, Future Trunks ends up absorbing some residual God Ki, which then comes out in full force when he fights Fused Zamasu in the Dragon Ball Super anime.
Super Saiyan Rage Future Trunks combines light God Ki with Super Saiyan 2, making Trunks strong enough to actually defeat Zamasu. If Zamasu weren’t literally immortal, Future Trunks would have actually been able to kill him with his Sword of Hope. Interestingly, Super Saiyan Rage is exclusive to the Dragon Ball Super anime. In the manga, Future Trunks is instead a Kai apprentice and uses his healing abilities to help Goku fight off Merged Zamasu in the arc’s final battle.

Super Saiyan Blue Evolution is SSB At Its Absolute Strongest
Super Saiyan Blue Evolution is a form unique to Vegeta in both the Dragon Ball Super anime and manga. Vegeta unlocks SSBE for the first time during the Tounamet of Power. In the Dragon Ball Super anime, Super Saiyan Blue Evolution Vegeta scales up to around Ultra Instinct -Sign- Goku’s Power Level, making him slightly stronger than Goku on paper (an idea Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero runs wild with during their base form sparring match).
All 5 Dragon Ball Super Main Characters’ Strongest Transformations, Ranked
Dragon Ball Super’s main characters are stronger than ever, and each one has a powerful transformation that’ll likely be key to stopping Black Frieza.
In the Dragon Ball Super manga, Super Saiyan Blue Evolution is an extension of Mastered Super Saiyan Blue, which becomes Vegeta’s main transformation until he unlocks Ultra Ego in the Granolah Saga. Interestingly, because Goku unlocks Ultra Instinct in the Universe Survival Saga, he never bothers developing his version of MSSB into SSBE. Vegeta was last seen using Super Saiyan Blue Evolution while sparring with Gohan Beast in Dragon Ball Super Chapter 103.

Super Saiyan Blue Kaioken Mixes Two of Goku’s Strongest Forms into a Brutal Power-Up
In Dragon Ball Z, Goku stopped using Kaioken after the Frieza Saga, only tapping into it once in the non-canon Otherworld Tournament Saga. Dragon Ball Super finally brought Kaioken back after decades. In the Dragon Ball Super anime, Goku mixes Kaioken with Super Saiyan Blue in order to overpower Hit. In the Dragon Ball Super manga, Goku does the same, but against Jiren in the Tournament of Power.
By combining Kaioken with Super Saiyan Blue, Goku is able to raise his Power Level to incredible new heights. Unfortunately, putting Kaioken and God Ki together puts massive strain on his body, to negative effects. In the Dragon Ball Super anime, Goku ends up suffering from Ki sickness following the Tournament of Destroyers. In the Dragon Ball Super manga, Super Saiyan Blue Kaioken Goku simply pushes Goku’s body too hard, to the point he can’t do much against Jiren.

Orange Piccolo Can Finally Rival Goku & Vegeta Again Thanks to Shenron
After spending most of Dragon Ball Super either in the background or contributing very minimally to major fights, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero finally gave Piccolo the spotlight by not only making him the movie’s main character, but giving him a transformation for the first time in Dragon Ball history. After making a wish on the Dragon Balls to unlock his latent potential, Shenron gives Piccolo an added bonus: the Orange Piccolo form.
Orange Piccolo is as strong as any God form, and more or less on par with Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego. While it’s unlikely Orange Piccolo would actually be able to beat either UI Goku or UE Vegeta, the fact of the matter is that he’s in the same ballpark now. Unfortunately, Orange Piccolo had to share the spotlight with Gohan Beast, so otherwise he’d likely have received greater fanfare.

Mastered Ultra Instinct Has the Potential To Be The Strongest Form in Dragon Ball
First introduced during Goku’s battle with Jiren in the Tournament of Power, Ultra Instinct is currently Goku’s strongest transformation and has the potential to become the best form in Dragon Ball Super with more training. Every saga, Goku’s mastery of Ultra Instinct improves. In the Moro Saga, Goku learns how to astral project his Ki and activate Ultra Instinct whenever he wants after training with Merus. In the Granolah Saga, Goku figures out how to mix his other Super Saiyan forms into Ultra Instinct, allowing him to conserve energy and use UI regardless of his state of mind.
Goku is still developing Ultra Instinct as of Dragon Ball Super Chapter 103, but since Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero keeps him out of the action, he hasn’t gotten the chance to use the form at full power in quite a while. Most recently, Ultra Instinct Goku lost a sparring match to Gohan Beast, but once Dragon Ball Super returns from hiatus, it’s only a matter of time before Goku surpasses both Gohan and Vegeta in the Black Frieza Saga.

Ultra Ego Vegeta is Currently Stronger Than Ultra Instinct Goku
After falling behind Ultra Instinct Goku in the Tournament of Power, Vegeta finally unlocked a form that makes him objectively stronger than Goku: Ultra Ego. At the start of the Granolah Saga, Beerus gives Vegeta a God of Destruction earring as a sign that Vegeta should be developing his destructive abilities further. While fighting Granolah later in the arc, Vegeta finally puts Beerus’ teachings to practice and unlocks Ultra Ego.
Dragon Ball: 7 Characters Who Fought Goku And Should Have Won
Across the original Dragon Ball, DBZ, Dragon Ball GT, and Dragon Ball Super, Goku fights, survives, & even wins against characters who should’ve won.
The opposite of Ultra Instinct, Ultra Ego focuses on raw, destructive power and gets stronger as the user takes damage and gets deeper into battle. The big drawback to Ultra Ego is that the form can exhaust itself very easily, as seen during Vegeta’s fights with Granolah and Gas where he isn’t able to keep it active long enough to defeat either foe. Once mastered, however, Ultra Ego Vegeta will be a force to be reckoned with. Even in its basic state, Ultra Ego Vegeta is already slightly stronger than Ultra Instinct Goku.

Legendary Super Saiyan Broly’s Power is Maximum
Legendary Super Saiyan Broly is in a league of his own in Dragon Ball Super. LSSJ Broly is so strong, Goku and Vegeta need to fuse into Gogeta just to stand a chance. Even then, Super Saiyan Gogeta isn’t enough – it takes the full might of Super Saiyan Blue Gogeta for them to finally put Broly in his place. As of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Broly still cannot tap into his Legendary Super Saiyan form by himself, but with continued training, he’ll likely end up the Z-Fighters’ best bet at taking on Frieza Black.
Broly is not the only Legendary Super Saiyan in Dragon Ball Super, either. The Universe Survival Saga introduces Kale, the Legendary Super Saiyan of Universe 6. While Kale is marginally weaker than Broly, Legendary Super Saiyan Kale was strong enough to eliminate most of the Tournament of Power’s fighters with ease and even go toe to toe with Goku. As unstable as it is, Legendary Super Saiyan is far and away the strongest SSJ form in Dragon Ball.
2
Gohan Beast is Unprecedently Powerful
Ultimate Gohan was the strongest unfused character at the end of Dragon Ball Z, but he immediately lost his status with Beerus and Super Saiyan God Goku’s introductions in Battle of Gods. Dragon Ball Super only made Gohan lag even harder until the Universe Survival Saga, where he finally started training again and got himself back in fighting shape for the Tournament of Power. Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero finally gave Gohan the credits he deserves by not only revealing he’s been secretly training, but giving him an all new transformation.
Gohan Beast is the strongest form the heroes have access to, at the moment. Neither a Saiyan or God form, Beast is totally unique to Gohan and brings out all his latent potential. In many respects, Gohan Beast feels like an extension of his Ultimate form from Dragon Ball Z. Gohan Beast is so strong, he was even able to knock Goku out of Ultra Instinct and take on both Broly & Vegeta in Dragon Ball Super Chapter 103.

Black Frieza is the Strongest Form in Dragon Ball Super
As of the Granolah Saga, Frieza is once again the top dog in Dragon Ball. Following the events of Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Frieza left Universe 7 and began exploring the multiverse. On his travels, he found an abandoned Hyperbolic Time Chamber that he trained in for ten years. During this time, Frieza rose his Power Level higher than ever and developed a transformation even stronger than Golden Frieza: Black Frieza.
Black Frieza debuts his new form for the first time at the end of the Granolah Saga where he kills Gas, and then defeats both Ultra Instinct Goku & Ultra Ego Vegeta in a single hit. When Dragon Ball Super returns, it’s more than likely the manga will kick-start the Black Frieza Saga, but how the Z-Fighters will be able to stand up against such an overwhelmingly powerful villain is anyone’s guess at this point. Dragon Ball has quite simply never had a form as strong as Black Frieza.
