Wizards of the Coast recently announced a new collaboration Magic: The Gathering As a full-fledged Universe Beyond set dedicated to Nickelodeon's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IP, but a small set of crossovers is around the corner, and it has some very good cards. In September 2025, WotC revealed the roadmap for 2026 Magic: The GatheringWith all the remaining various releases for 2025. A huge Secret Layer Superdrop arrived on October 13th with all sorts of new cards and reprints, and will debut on October 27th. MTGof PlayStation Secret Lair drops. These are dedicated to the following IPs:

- god of war (Greek and Norse Sagas)
- unknown
- Horizon Forbidden West
- Ghost of Tsushima
Recently, the new card for MTGwho Ghost of Tsushima The PlayStation Secret Lair was revealed, and it's dedicated to none other than the protagonist Ghost of YoteiAtsu. Considering the dedicated announcement Ghost of TsushimaIt seemed like a logical progression Ghost of Yotei Will eventually pass along MTG At the time, however, fans did not expect such a rapid change. Given that Atsu's new card Jin fits Sakai's commander colors, it would be natural to pair them, but Jin isn't really the best commander for Atsu.
Instead, it's Yuriko, the tiger's shadow. This is due to Atsu's color identity, which is blue, and the fact that it works perfectly with creatures with 1 power, making them unblockable. on the other hand, MTGKo Jin Sakai has 2 power, and would work well as a card at 99 for Atsu, but it's unlikely.
It's worth noting that Atsu, the ghost of Yotei, is a bonus card for Ghost of Tsushima Secret Lair.
October 27 is suddenly a big day for MTG's Yuriko Commander players
This may not come as a surprise to fans who have owned it for a long time Magic: The Gathering Also played in Commander decks or sometimes formats, as Yuriko, Shadow of the Tiger is a powerful Commander that is one of the most popular in the entire game. Yuriko is a blue/black creature with the Commander Ninjutsu ability, which means it can always be cast from the command zone for 1 blue and 1 black regardless of commander tax.
Commander tax makes players pay 1 generic mana more to cast their commander if it is destroyed or otherwise removed which returns it to the command zone. This stacks, meaning a twice-removed commander gains +2 generic mana on the third cast.
As such, Atsu unblocks Yuriko due to its 1 power, meaning players can get a free card draw and even lose life to opponents based on the converted mana cost of the card drawn. This is a powerful combo because it allows Yuriko to easily unblock even when casting a card with Commander Ninjutsu, whereas artifact cards like Brotherhood Regalia cannot be carried into Yuriko mid-combat, and spells/auras like Aqueous Form or Aether Tunnel can only be cast at this speed.
Interestingly, the Smoke Shroud can be returned from the grave to the field and attached to the entering ninja creature, which works with Yuriko because it is a ninja. However, it allows flight instead of unblocking.

Why Magic: The Gathering Ghost of Yotei Cards is already controversial
The reason is that Atsu is a reprint of Dominaria's Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive, and it has been a staple in Yuriko Commander decks for some time, with 23,200 of the 28,800 Yuriko decks in EDHREC containing a copy of Tetsuko. While this may be good news for fans who wanted to use Tetsuko's new print in their Yuriko decks, it's probably a good thing for several other reasons, such as:

MTG x PlayStation Ghosts of Yotei Secret Lair Controversy Explained
Many players on social media have already shared their disappointment with Atsu, Yotei's Ghost being reprinted, especially considering how unique and potentially very powerful the upcoming Jin Sakai, Ghost of Tsushima card is. In fact, Jin is one of the few combat-affairs Esper commanders in the game, to join the ranks. MTGFinal Fantasy Noctis cards from the main set or new from the December 5 scene boxes.
On top of that, many gamers who experienced Ghost of YoteiThe story is and will be MTG Players believe that Atsu should be given a different color. Red fits the most as black is a good secondary color due to the revenge theme, while mono-blue makes much less sense. MTGMana colors are more appropriate for Jin Sakai, for example, but since Atsu is a reprint, it can only have different colors on a different basis.
Finally, the other players are disappointed that Atsu uses the card Ghost of YoteiKey art instead of new, dedicated illustrations from many of the game's most famous artists. It's probably due to some sort of last-minute deal, so it makes sense, but it's still sad for some.
