My Hero Academia Has a very distinctive art style, incorporating lots of color and vibrancy to help it stand out from its shonen competition, but nowhere is author Horikoshi's artistic talent more evident than on the manga covers. These illustrations give readers a sneak peek at the current events and characters included within the story before turning to the first page.

On other occasions, though, these covers are having a bit of fun putting the series' iconic characters in Horikoshi in all sorts of weird and wacky scenarios. Volume 21

A cover showing the subtle differences between Hawks and Endeavour

While Endeavor is introduced very early in the story when he watches Tudoroki from afar at the tournament, he plays a much larger role later on where his character is built up and expanded upon a bit more. A character who has always admired Endeavor is Hawks, a fellow pro-hero who has looked up to Endeavor since he was a child, and they both appear back to back on this cover.

Just through this single image, fans can immediately distinguish what sets these two apart. While Endeavor burns with rage as his flames engulf his entire body, Hawks looks calm and calculated as his wings are fueled by his friend's flames. All this results in a veritable feast for the eyes that also manages to feed into the characters and their personalities.

Section 35

The hero and main villain of the series come into close contact

Simple yet effective, Volume 35 features Deku and Shigaraki who seem to reach for each other despite being physically and emotionally completely separated. These are the two major players when considering this pairing my hero story since it began, seeing them come together for one of the final episodes of the series was a real treat for longtime fans.

There's also a ton of little details to appreciate here, including the yellow and red swirls around Deku and Shigaraki respectively, the shocked expressions on their faces, and the multicolored title. This cover feels like a love letter to fans and an artistic vision of heroes and villains all rolled into one.

Section 33

A haunting cover that fits the dark tone of the final arcs

As time went on, Horikoshi's designs became a bit more realistic and moody, and with this came a darker tone for the series. This is reflected in the cover of volume 33, which shows Deku, who has gone rogue at this point, sporting his worn and dirty vigilante outfit, while Uraraka and Ida are shown with faces full of emotion. Merging the two in Deku's outfit is a clever way to highlight how much he means to Deku when he's completely ready to let go of many of his friends.

The small dashes of rain that punctuate the illustration also add a dark aesthetic, especially when juxtaposed with Deku's bright green eyes, which are glaring lifelessly at the reader. This is one of the most haunting covers ever my heroBut all very lovely to watch, and a true showcase of Horikoshi's wonderful character and costume designs.

Section 8

A vibrant and colorful tribute to classic comic book covers

Perhaps Horikoshi's greatest homage to Marvel Comics is the cover of Volume 8, in which many of the characters are all separated into their own colorful strips while Momo can be seen in the middle. The first term final exam, which is covered in this section of chapters, is difficult for many students, especially Momo, who begins to question his usefulness along with Todoroki.

On the other hand, Deku and Bakugo have a very hard time trying to work together when going up against All Might, which is very evident on this cover as they both ignore each other while All Might stands high and mighty in the background. . Being able to capture the emotions of so many characters in one glossy cover is a testament to how great an artist Horikoshi truly is.

Section 24

This cover manages to say a lot about each of the League of Villains members

The League of Villains take center stage on this cover to kick off their respective arcs in the story, and it's honestly remarkable how much can be gleaned about this rag-tag group just by looking at them. Whether it's a quiet and reserved assertion sitting in the corner, enjoying a double head, or Toga coldly staring at the reader, there's a lot of charm in this cover that comes from the varied expressions of each of the main villains.

Another neat little touch that takes this cover to the next level is the “villain” sign made to cover the original title, almost like a fourth wall break where the characters are playing against Horikoshi's rules. Shigaraki may have already been featured on multiple covers, but seeing him and the entire gang in their natural habitat is still a memorable image that effortlessly conveys who each of them are and what makes them different from one another.

Section 25

Quirky illustration that expresses Shigaraki's sad personality

Shigaraki is one of the scariest characters in the entire series, especially when his hand-mask is removed, revealing his smile and facial expression. Despite being very brazen and sometimes hot-headed, Shigaraki is still very powerful, and takes great pleasure in destroying the society of heroes, as expressed by his face on the iconic cover.

The purple color that covers the entire page definitely helps make it unique, it's the sad look on Shigaraki's face, paired with his skin-white hair and mischievous smile, that makes this cover stand out so much. Hirakoshi also decided to make Shigaraki's clothes appear to be rotting, perhaps as a subtle nod to his quirk, and how it fits into his tragic background.

Section 1

An all-timer that even fans of My Hero Academia will recognize

Volume 1's cover has become one of the most iconic covers in all of manga. The image of Deku grinning ear to ear in the background is an illustration that has become synonymous with the series, but it also sets the stage for what is to come. It not only conveys the lively and fun tone of the early seasons, but showcases Horikoshi's character designs with several pro-heroes in the background, motivating readers for the adventures ahead and the characters they meet along the way.

This cover would become so legendary, it would even be referenced in the final volume, which featured All Might for Old Deku. However, this volume cover still stands as one of the best in the history of the series, insofar as it non-my hero Fans pick it up for the image alone.

Horikoshi puts his incredible character designs on full display through a minimalistic cover

This intense cover gives a rare glimpse of All Might without his signature smile. Instead, he can be seen with a look of horror on his face as he prepares for one of his overpowered attacks, clearly battered and bruised from his battle with a certain man. This volume opens with All For One facing off against All Might, which is one of the most exciting parts of the entire series, so it looks like it's going to be as epic as the cover.

The choice to remove the background entirely also allows Horikoshi's character designs to really stand out, especially the color coordination which allows All Might to look even more vivid. Overall, it's a brilliant illustration that does a great job of highlighting just how high the stakes were for this epic conflict between the two arch-enemies.
