The Luigi from Super Mario Galaxy actor says Mangione is his second favorite

The Super Mario Galaxy movie is finally here, for better or worse, which means that many of the actors in the movie's star-studded cast are currently doing interviews and appearances to try and promote the movie. So far, most of them are good, as expected from a Nintendo-controlled interview about a family film centered around the company's main man.

We haven't had an accident yet, nor has Jack Black gone on a TV talk show with his package on full display this time, but thanks to a recent interview with Luigi actor Charlie Day, we've had one very odd comment so far.

Charlie is a big fan of De Luigi Mangion

First reported by Kotaku, Day was recently interviewed in Tokyo with fellow actors Keegan-Michael Key and Anya Taylor-Joy, and was rather awkwardly asked who his “favorite Luigi in recent American history” was. That question got a lot of laughs from the crew, probably because it was setting up the day for Luigi Mangione to name-drop, which he promptly did.

Of course, Day mentions that Luigi from Super Mario Bros. is his favorite, but names Magione as his “number two”. The interviewer then said “that's what we wanted”, seeming very happy with the answer he got.

Mario reveals his Smash Bros as he shakes hands with Sora.

According to Miyamoto, there are no plans for a Smash Bros. movie

Despite the characters appearing on the big screen for Mario Galaxy, there are Smash Bros. There are no big plans for the movie.

If you're unfamiliar, Luigi Mangione caused a stir in 2024 with an alleged murder. Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealthcare, and he is currently awaiting trial. Since then, Mangione has developed a cult following while incarcerated, due to a combination of his appearance and the public's distaste for health insurance companies. Basically, he's a very controversial figure in American politics, which makes it all the more strange that his name was dropped in an interview vetted by Nintendo, and even a kid's movie promo. Then again, Charlie Day is a pretty stupid and goofy guy, so maybe it's not surprising that he'd convince an interviewer that he wanted to drop the name of a suspected killer.
