The Sparking Zero DLC adds new characters, stage costumes, and more

Let's say Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero didn't already have enough content, characters, modes or costumes, the title is going out with the next DLC update which is set to launch sometime this summer.

In a new trailer shown during Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri, a live stream event celebrating all things Dragon Ball, including a new anime and an original game coming in 2027, it was revealed that missing heavily-fan-requested characters are now entering the game, including Super Saiyan King 1, Super Saiyan King 1 and Dakkolo 7.

Announcements for Sparkign! Zero didn't stop there, either, as the game not only features new characters, but also new costumes, including Gohan in Goku's signature orange gi. The nearly two-minute long trailer also promised new attacks and a new mode.

“Now, go even further.”

It's a “major DLC that allows you to enjoy even more heated battles of Dragon Ball,” Jun Furutani, creator of Sparking! Zero, said on stage.

Finally, a free update for the game is launching which adds the famous mission 100 of Budokai Tenkaichi to the game. For those who don't know, Mission 100 is a beloved, albeit extremely difficult mission that involves 100 battles against some of the franchise's toughest opponents and teams.

Dragon Ball Games had exceptional post-launch support

While it was previously announced that Sparking Zero will be receiving new DLC during the one-year anniversary celebration, although it was not previously known, the new content shouldn't come as too much of a surprise, especially if you've been following other Dragon Ball titles.

Back in October, FighterZ came out of its hibernation to reveal that Super Saiyan 4 Goku (Daima) would be coming to the game as DLC in Spring 2026, a seismic announcement considering the last DLC was released nearly four years ago.

Then there's Kakarot, which, after giving us the OG Dragon Ball DLC, went into the present day with a pair of Daima-related expansions, the last of which was released this month. For reference, Kakarot was first released in 2024 before receiving DLC support in 2020, with expansions essentially every year.

And we'd be remiss if we didn't mention Xenoverse 2, a title that – check notes – was released in 2017 and is still receiving free and paid upgrades. So much so that it added the ultra supervillain Golden Frieza, a manga-only spin on Black Frieza. Its developers are keenly aware of how heavy it can be and a flowchart of the DLC was even released.

In other words, DLC is normal, and if you're a die-hard Dragon Ball fan, would you have it any other way? no
