Ultimate Defense Academy is actually two games in one

The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy was one of the most ambitious games of 2025. The title, the brainchild of Danganronpa's Kazutaka Kodaka, Last Defense Academy, was intended to take players through 100 different story paths, each with a different ending, set over 100 days.

With an average score of 3.5/5 on Metacritic (and 3.5/5 from us at TheGamer), the title was well-received, but while fears of bankruptcy have subsided for developer TooKyo Games, the team recently revealed that The Hundred Line has yet to reach the “break-even point”.

With plans to break even, release DLC, and support new languages, TooKyo is looking to re-release the game, including both The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy and The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy 2. The first game included the second game.

The Hundred Line: The Last Defense Academy was actually two games all together

In all my years of playing and covering games, I can't recall an instance where, nine months after launch, a developer has decided/revealed that their previously released game was actually two games the whole time – but apparently that's what The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy is.

A post on the Hundred Line website (via 4Gamer in Japan) revealed that The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy has been rebranded to “Man 1 and 2 Packs.” This post suggests that the first game is the first 100 days at school, and the sequel is “where you spend the second 100 days after the first 100 days,” otherwise known as the post-game.

Takumi is ready to fight in The Hundred Line - The Last Defense Academy-.

The legendary Japanese developer only pursued making games because a colleague called him a failure

“What am I even doing?”

Avoiding spoilers, players usually play through the first 100 days to achieve an ending, and then roll credits. From here, they can replay sections of the game, change the story, and help them get endings they didn't get the first time around. This second part is branded as a sequel.

To celebrate the “release of information about Hundred Line 2,” TooKyo is releasing a special edition of the game, which comes with a commemorative sleeve, and putting the game's 112-song soundtrack on streaming services.

It's a bold marketing tactic, deciding that your game is actually two games after it's release, but you have to admire TooKyo for doing something.
