The official Kingdom Hearts 4 update has finally been updated, but it really reminds us of how bad things were for fans last year.
As we approach yet another big gaming showcase, I can hear whispers and hopes from Kingdom Hearts fans that Kingdom Hearts 4 might get a long-overdue update. It's been almost four years since the game launched and, outside of some nice screenshots, we haven't heard anything about it.
Although I refuse to get caught up in the hype again and dream that Square can give us a new trailer, there is actually little legitimate update to the world of Kingdom Hearts. That being said, it's not exactly good news, and just confirms beyond a shadow of a doubt that the next game is completely dead.
Kingdom Hearts 4's website has now removed any reference to Missing Link
It's dead, Jim
On Twitter, eagle-eyed Kingdom Hearts fan MaxMulder pointed out that the Kingdom Hearts 4 website has been updated for the first time since its recent launch. Don't get too excited just yet, though, as the update only removes any reference to Kingdom Hearts Missing Link, the mobile game that was canceled earlier in the year.
Watching Riku Play Kingdom Hearts is what fans need right now
With Kingdom Hearts 4 still MIA, Riku's voice actor who plays the series continues to haunt me.
Before the most recent update, the Kingdom Hearts 4 website included a small portal section that would link you to the Missing Links web page, but that link has since been removed (pun intended) entirely. Now, the website allows you to return to the Kingdom Hearts portal or just stare at the Kingdom Hearts 4 logo for what feels like eternity.
To be honest, considering how long the missing link has been defunct, I'm a little surprised it took this long to get it removed from the page.
This is not much of an update, and actually serves to confirm once and for all that the missing link is indeed dead and buried without a chance of return. That being said, I've seen some fans try and think on the positive side that Square Enix is at least bothering to update the website and may be preparing for some sort of update or relaunch with real news.
I'm a little too beat up by the recent Kingdom Hearts to believe it, but it's true that Square Enix has recently taken some time to shape up the KH4 website out of nowhere. This probably means nothing more than the eventual death of Missing Link, but this year we've got a lot more to talk about than what we've had in the Kingdom Hearts world. I pray that changes in the near future, so the removed link is not big news.
