Some time was new JRPGs were rare items, as many of them never left Japan. For the most part, those days are long gone, and almost all major projects are not only ported to Western territories but also released on multiple consoles and PC. 2025 has already produced many great JRPGs, but the year isn't over yet; Moreover, the first quarter of 2026 has really taken shape at this point, and many genres seem to hit the ground running. JRPGs are no exception.
These days, exciting new games are so frequent that keeping up with all the announcements is frankly exhausting. Debuts are also a daily occurrence, and you can't play everything, especially when you choose games known for long 30+ hour campaigns. So, to simplify matters, let's highlight The biggest upcoming JRPGs which should begin in the coming months. If you like this genre, keep an eye on these titles.
-
The focus is primarily on games with confirmed release dates for this year or 2026, and nothing before November 1, 2025. That said, we included one exception.
-
Like games Personality 4 Resurrection, Dragon Quest 12and Final Fantasy Remake Part 3 (or DLC, as the rumors have it) will definitely be big, but none of this is confirmed for 2026.
-
We're going to be a bit strict with the definition of “JRPG”, so games like Yakuza Kiwami 3 and Dark Ties will not be considered.
-
such as ports Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade Coming to Switch 2 will not be included. It's still cool, though.
- The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon Abandoned for being too niche. Don't get me wrong, the game looks great, but the franchise has a billion entries and is unlikely to get any bigger.
Octopath Traveler 0
Adapting a great mobile JRPG for consoles and PC
The The biggest upcoming 2025 JRPG is Octopath Traveler 0Although it is not technically 100% new. Square Enix and DokiDoki are essentially adapting Champions of the continentA game that is currently available to play on Android and iOS devices, for consoles and PC. While that version has gacha and standard mechanics for the mobile release, Octopath Traveler 0 These elements will be removed to create an experience closer to the previous main entries.
The term “mobile port” scares many people, but it's often the trappings of that process that should be avoided. more importantly, Octopath Traveler 0 Instead of rehashing the 8-hero structure of its predecessors, the franchise is set to evolve in an exciting and risky way. Not only will you get to create an original character, but you'll be able to recruit dozens of heroes, hopefully offering an incredibly wide range of party diversity. The battle system shouldn't be too different from before, but it doesn't need to be changed anyway. The game will also have a city-building/restoration aspect that is directly linked to the story, with the protagonist's village being destroyed as a triggering event.
Code vein 2
The Soulslike Vampire Anime JRPG returns in 2026
For the most part, I prefer to label Soulslikes as JRPGs since they're basically their own genre, so Neoh 3 Not highlighted in this article. but, Code vein 2 Only SO anime should make an exception. Its predecessor was arguably the first true Soulslike JRPG, and the sequel looks set to be bigger and, possibly, better. Although far from surprising, No code laid a solid foundation for a potential follow-up, which should retain the same core mechanics and focus on fine-tuning the base combat and level design.
The sequel turns the Revenants into monsters through the introduction of Luna Rapaces, sending the world into chaos. Thanks to a girl named Lo, you must travel through time to change everything, fight enemies and spill blood along the way. While JRPGs are beloved for their stories, Code vein 2 Probably won't tell one of the biggest stories of 2026, as it should focus more on combat and exploration.
Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined
Not the most obvious Dragon Quest game to remake, but it needs to
Any and every Dragon Quest The game is worth playing, and the mainline entries are consistently great. Franchise is the granddaddy and guru Turn-based JRPGsAnd Square Enix has been remastering/remaking some of its early releases. Unlike the HD-2D remakes of the first three games, Dragon Quest 7: Fragments of the Forgotten Past It's getting a complete makeover treatment with a new diorama-inspired art style that may take some getting used to.
Although not as universally loved DQ5 or DQ8The original PS1 game is relentlessly charming and cute, with the campaign divided into islands that each tell self-contained stories. it said, DQ7 is notoriously long and slow-paced, so it can be difficult to revisit in this day and age. While the 3DS version is great, Dragon Quest 7: Reimagined will rework the game from the ground up, (hopefully) creating a more streamlined journey with the same adventurous tone as the original.
Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection
Might be the best monster hunter game in years…
monster hunter Have an interesting 2025, with wild Debuting to relative acclaim before settling into a rather tumultuous post-launch existence. Fortunately, you don't have to worry about jumping into core games at all Monster hunter storiesA turn-based JRPG subseries that prioritizes storytelling, characters, and, to an extent, exploration.
Monster Hunter Stories 3 Revolves around two kingdoms, two dragons, and impending extinction, and you step into the role of a prince who embarks on a journey to save the world before it's too late. During their journey, they are joined by an assortment of colorful figures and even bond with monsters (called monstige), which should come in handy during battles. If you like turn-based JRPGs with a creature-collection twist, you'll probably like (or, at least, enjoy) these games, and there's nothing to suggest. Monster Hunter Stories 3 It will fail to meet the standards set by its predecessors.
Decapolis
Level-5's long-awaited spy JRPG is coming in 2026
Exception.
Decapolis It was supposed to come out in 2023, but was delayed. Then, it targeted 2024, but was again delayed to 2026. If it were any other developer, multiple postponements would be a sign of trouble and kill most of the hype surrounding the game, but Level-5 isn't just any company. The team has proven time and time again that they can create something truly special, and with Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals TimeThey proved that delay is not a sign of quality.
decisively, Decapolis Looks FANTASTIC. Crime procedural JRPGs basically don't exist, but Marriage looks perfect on paper. Set in a cyberpunk-ish city, you're in charge of a rogue special investigation team and assigned various cases to gather evidence and try to change the hearts of criminals. The latter is also slightly verbose Personality 5but Decapolis All the content that JRPGs come out with in any given year. Please let it be 2026.
