Why Red Dead Redemption 2 Never Received an Official GOTY Edition

Red Dead Redemption 2 Often considered one of the greatest video games of all time, that hasn't changed despite the surprising lack of support for modern hardware. In fact, while countless gamers will undoubtedly be willing to spend an extra $10, $20, or even more for the current-gen version. Red Dead 2Rockstar seems to have ignored such efforts, leaving the game more or less unchanged since its 2018 release.

Perhaps gamers should have seen this coming, though, as such Red Dead 2 There was never a Game of the Year edition or similar re-release. Game of the Year editions, while they weren't as common during the 7th and 8th console generations, are still a major staple in the games industry. Typically, they are bundles of games containing any post-launch or deluxe edition content, used to leverage the prestige or popularity of a successful title. No such version has ever been released for Rockstar Red Dead Redemption 2However, and there are good, if somewhat depressing, reasons.

It's not really important, but Red Dead Redemption 2 didn't actually win game of the year

One obvious reason may be quick to point out Red Dead Redemption 2 The version never got any sort of GOTY: it didn't actually win Game of the Year at the 2018 Game Awards. That honor goes to Sony Santa Monica's Soft god of war Reboot instead. But this is something of a moot point, since Red Dead Redemption 2 Won other Game of the Year awards from various outlets and organizations. While Keighley's Game Awards is the most popular of its kind, it has no monopoly on the concept.

But anyway, there's no sacred code that says a game needs to win some special accolade to earn Edition of the Year. Walk through your local retro game store, and you'll see evidence of this: countless video games from around 2005-2015 are emblazoned with the title “Game of the Year,” even if they're relatively obscure or under-received.

Game of the Year Edition is really just another term for “Legendary Edition” or something similar. It is meant to convey a higher value than the original release, either through additional content or some kind of enhancement. saying, Red Dead Redemption 2 Never got the legendary/special/anniversary edition. It follows that the presence or absence of any GOTY award has little to do with the reason why Red Dead 2 The game has no version of the year.

Red Dead Redemption 2 never got any DLC to include in the GOTY re-release

A more likely, and more frustrating, reason Red Dead Redemption 2 What Game of the Year Edition has never achieved is its notable lack of single-player DLC. The only thing the game received was for substantial post-launch content Red Dead OnlineAnd the nature of Rockstar's online ecosystem doesn't really lend itself to physical releases or special bundles. It separates Red Dead Redemption 2 From its predecessor, which received the Game of the Year edition in 2011, it included Dead Nightmare DLC.

It is worth noting Red Dead Redemption 2's online content has received mixed reception, to put it mildly, making it even less suitable fodder for any sort of special edition or re-release.

the more red dead As fans have long lamented, there isn't Dead Nightmare equal to Red Dead Redemption 2And so, there's nothing concrete to include in the Game of the Year Edition, or any similar special editions. It is such a thing Red Dead 2 is similar to GTA 5which received no single-player DLC nor subsequent GOTY releases. However, it was re-released twice, with the first next-gen upgrade releasing meaningful changes such as a new first-person mode. DLC is probably out of the picture Red Dead Redemption 2But perhaps Rockstar could release a similarly enhanced version, with some new bells and whistles, at some point down the road.
