I didn't keep count of how many soft resets Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreenI had to endure the shiny starter, but I got my squirtle after about 43 hours. I spent about 40-41 hours looking for Charmander, actually, and switched it a few times to make it less tough in my mind, but instead I got a shiny squirtle. On top of that, it's always a mathematical average we're talking about, so it could happen, even with very high odds, that you won't get your shiny Pokemon. ZA or Scarlet and purple 40 hours later, and then you get that dopamine boost when you finally do. The bottom line is that I still think moving away from 1 in 8,192 base odds in modern games is a good thing, especially when society moves much faster than it did in the early 2000s, and when video games require your undivided attention.
