Dragon Ball is home to some of the most overpowered characters in fiction. Even in the days before God Ki in Dragon Ball Z, the average character in the anime was capable of destroying entire planets without breaking a sweat. By the start of Dragon Ball Super, the power-scaling got so out of control, that Super Saiyan God Goku and Beerus were literally shaking the foundation of the universe just with their punches.
Dragon Ball Super just keeps escalating how OP the strongest characters are with new forms, broken wishes, crazy fusions, and a God hierarchy that simply can’t be surpassed. As of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, the Z-Fighters are stronger than they’ve ever been, and they’re about to face the multiversal-level threat that is Black Frieza. By the end of the manga, Dragon Ball‘s main characters will be the most overpowered cast in anime and manga history.

Dragon Ball: Goku’s 10 Strongest Rivals, Ranked
As of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Goku now has multiple rivals who are more powerful than him, giving him the motivation he needs to grow stronger.

Jiren Was Basically Untouchable in the Tournament of Power
Jiren is the strongest warrior in Universe 11, and the only mortal confirmed to be definitively stronger than his universe’s God of Destruction. It’s easy to overlook since Goku, Frieza, and Android 17 ring him out thanks to their teamwork, but no one actually manages to defeat Jiren 1 on 1 in the Tournament of Power. The Dragon Ball Super makes Jiren even stronger by having him outright defeat Ultra Instinct Goku fair and square.
In Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Goku still uses Jiren as his benchmark for power and the main reason for him to stay motivated & keep training. Goku’s gotten a lot stronger since then, but he left a strong impression on Jiren. Jiren already trains hard to remain the strongest person in Universe 11, but now that he knows that there are fighters like Goku out in the multiverse (and understands the power of friendship), a newly trained Jiren could very well give Goku the fight he’s always been looking for.

Gas Instantly Becomes the Strongest Fighter in Universe 7 Anytime He’s Surpassed
After Granolah uses the Dragon Balls to make himself the strongest person in Universe 7, Elec gets the idea to go to Cereal, gather the Dragon Balls, and use Toronbo to make his brother Gas the most powerful warrior in the universe. Unlike Granolah’s wish, which immediately traded his life force for ultimate power, Elec’s wish simply ages Gas up to when he would naturally have surpassed anyone who’s stronger than him.
Due to the nature of Elec’s wish, Gas grows extremely powerful over the course of the Granolah the Survivor Saga’s final battle. Over the course of the fight, Gas surpasses Granolah, Ultra Ego Vegeta, and True Ultra Instinct Goku. The trio are able to briefly overpower him by working together, but Gas reaches insane heights in his Awakened form. He’s only defeated in the end because Frieza was outside of Universe 7 when the wish was made, and ends up killing him with his Black Frieza form.

Gohan Beast Has Beastly Potential Without Needing to Train
Gohan has more potential than almost anyone else in Dragon Ball. In Dragon Ball Z, he had a higher Power Level at just four-years old than Goku had after over two decades of training to become the strongest martial artist on Earth. By the end of DBZ, Ultimate Gohan was the most powerful unfused character in the series. Gohan’s raw natural talent allows him to catch up to fighters who dedicate their lives to training.
Gohan quickly fell off after God Ki was introduced in Battle of Gods, but Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero gave him back his top spot as the strongest Z-Fighters once he unlocked his Beast form. Gohan Beast is far and away the strongest main character right now. He was powerful enough to knock Goku out of Perfected Ultra Instinct, and overpower Broly when they sparred. Heading into the Black Frieza Saga, Gohan Beast is their best bet at stopping Frieza once and for all.

Legendary Super Saiyan Broly Was Powerful Enough to Require Goku & Vegeta to Fuse Into Gogeta
The only Dragon Ball character with more potential than Gohan is Broly. Broly was born around the same time as Goku and Vegeta, but completely eclipses them when he’s fighting at full power. Broly’s base Power Level is even higher than Super Saiyan God Goku and Super Saiyan God Vegeta in Dragon Ball Super: Broly. Super Saiyan Broly is even stronger than Super Saiyan Blue. In his Legendary Super Saiyan form, Broly could only be stopped by Gogeta.
As of Dragon Ball Super Chapter 103, Broly is training with Goku and Vegeta in order to tap into his full power without losing control. His sparring match with Gohan Beast proves that he’s closer than ever. If Broly can properly master his Full Power Super Saiyan form, he’ll be able to willingly tap into levels of power that forced Goku and Vegeta to fuse into Gogeta whenever he wants. If Broly had access to the quality of training Goku and Vegeta had in their youth, he’d literally be unstoppable.

Black Frieza Defeated Ultra Instinct Goku & Ultra Ego Vegeta With One Hit
Frieza was the strongest natural being in Dragon Ball Z, but he was quickly surpassed by the various Super Saiyan forms, Androids, Majins, and Fusions. Akira Toriyama recontextualized everything about Frieza when he reintroduced him in Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F and made him the most overpowered villain in the series. The only reason Frieza was weaker than Super Saiyan Goku was because he never actually trained.
By training for just four months in Dragon Ball Super, Frieza grows strong enough to surpass Super Saiyan Blue Goku and Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta in his Golden Frieza form. After unlocking his Black Frieza form by training for a full decade in a Hyperbolic Time Chamber, Frieza was able to kill Gas with one strike and defeat both Ultra Instinct Goku & Ultra Ego Vegeta at the same time. Black Frieza is set to be the next villain when the Dragon Ball Super manga returns, but how the heroes will beat such an overpowered villain without resorting to fusion is anyone’s guess.

Vegito is Only Held Back By the Potara’s Time Limit
Vegito was the single most powerful character at the end of Dragon Ball Z, but he just can’t keep up with God Ki. So much so, Vegito is dismissed as an option against Beerus in Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, forcing Goku to perform the God Ritual and unlock Super Saiyan God instead. Everything changed when Goku and Vegeta finally fused into Vegito again during the Goku Black Saga to fight Fused Zamasu.
Fused Zamasu is immortal and overwhelmingly powerful thanks to Goku Black, but Super Saiyan Blue Vegito completely obliterates him. In the Dragon Ball Super manga, Vegito Blue downright humiliates Zamasu. Unfortunately, Vegito is so strong that the Potara earring’s one-hour time limit for mortals cannot contain his full body. The full extent of Vegito using God Ki is extreme enough to diminish the Fusion down to just a few minutes before Goku & Vegeta defuse. If the Potara Fusion were truly permanent, Vegito might even be stronger than Gogeta.

Dragon Ball: 7 Strongest Characters Who Became Literal Gods, Ranked
To become a God in the Dragon Ball universe is a major feat only a few abundantly powerful fighters can lay claim to.

Beerus Keeps Raising the Bar Anytime Goku & Vegeta Catch Up to Him
Goku and Vegeta have been spending all of Dragon Ball Super to catch up with Beerus. Any time they get close, however, it’s made abundantly clear that Beerus is always one step ahead. Even now that Goku’s mastered Ultra Instinct and Vegeta has finally tapped into his full Destructive powers thanks to Ultra Ego, they’re still not on Beerus’ level. Every God of Destruction is overpowered just by the nature of the role, but Beerus is simply on another level.
He’s the only God of Destruction capable of performing the Hakai and using Ultra Instinct. In the Dragon Ball Super manga’s version of the Universe Survival Saga, all the Gods of Destruction fight in a battle royale where Beerus effortlessly dodges everyone’s blows and clearly asserts himself as the most powerful person there. If Goku and Vegeta ever surpass Beerus, it’ll have to be at the very end of the Dragon Ball Super manga.
3
Gogeta is the Most Overpowered Saiyan in Dragon Ball History
Gogeta is the most overpowered Fusion and Saiyan in Dragon Ball. Despite being much stronger than Vegito was in the Goku Black Saga (by proxy of Goku and Vegeta being more powerful in Dragon Ball Super: Broly), he never defuses or runs out of time during his battle with Broly. Super Saiyan Blue Gogeta is powerful enough to cause a literal dimension break, that sends them to the Dimension of Strange Swirling Lights.
Gogeta is strong enough that it’s implied that he’d be able to fight Beerus, and possibly even win. Thanks to Goku and Vegeta’s deep rivalry and unique relationship with one another, they receive a synergy boost from fusing together that gives them a greater power multiplier than the average fusion. If Goku and Vegeta want an easy way to kill Black Frieza for good and defeat Beerus, all they need to do is fuse into Gogeta. Of course, their Saiyan pride will stop them.
2
Whis & The Angels Will Never Be Surpassed
Behind only Zeno, the Angels are the upper echelon in the Dragon Ball multiverse. Whis has never had to so much as try in any of the fights he’s been in. He effortlessly dodges all of Broly’s blows, and catches a lightning-fast blow from Moro without flinching that only Perfected Ultra Instinct Goku was able to perceive. By virtue of training their respective Gods of Destructive, every universe’s Angel is capable of the same feats.
By that same token, the Grand Priest is far and away the strongest Angel in Dragon Ball Super. He’s not only the father of all the Angels, but trained them to the level they’re currently at. Back when the anime was airing, Dragon Ball Super fans speculated that the series would eventually pivot into a story arc about mortals rebelling against the Gods and Angels, but there’s just no realistic way any Z-Fighter would ever be able to beat an Angel – even the most overpowered ones like Gogeta.
1
Zeno Can Erase Literally Anyone & Anything With the Blink of an Eye
Zeno is the most overpowered character in all of Dragon Ball. He’s not a fighter or a martial artist, but he doesn’t need to be. The Omni King may not have created the multiverse (that distinction belongs to Rymus from Dragon Ball DAIMA), but he’s powerful enough that every single God of Destruction fears him. Even Beerus is absolutely terrified of what Zeno is capable of.
In the Goku Black Saga, Fused Zamasu infects the entire multiverse. With no effort whatsoever, Zeno erases every single universe – including Zamasu (who is literally immortal) – destroying everyone and everything in his path. If Zeno wanted to, he could snap the strongest Dragon Ball characters out of existence. The fact he’s able to survive in a null void speaks to just how OP Zeno is. No anime character can fight Zeno, let alone beat him.
