Hashirama Senju was Madara's only rival

It is impossible to talk about Madara without mentioning Hashirama, as the two were close friends who understood and respected each other. After growing up, he became the leader of his tribe. Unable to find peace between the two sides, Madara and Hashirama fought several times, and while they were close in terms of power, Hashirama had the edge.

Hashirama had Wood Release, the strongest Kekki Genkai in the series, and he used it to crush Madara every time. If normal attacks weren't enough, Hashirama boosted his power by tapping into Sage Mode. Hashirama and Madara fought one last time in the God Valley, and the Uchiha tried his best to stop Hashirama, but the latter was only one step ahead. The fight ended when Hashirama stabbed Madara in the chest, effectively ending his reign of terror.

Naruto Uzumaki impressed Madara with his power

Naruto's first meeting with Madara was worth watching. The hero watched in awe as Madara single-handedly took on the entire shinobi alliance, displaying his legendary power that even the resurrected Hashirama had trouble with. Naruto knew it wouldn't be easy to stop this legendary ninja, but the odds didn't stop him from trying. Unfortunately, Naruto's Nine-Tails Chakra Mode was not enough to crush Madara, especially after the villain became the Ten-Tails Jinchuriki. In fact, Naruto was to be brought back from the brink of death.

It was only after the hero met Hagoromo that the tide began to change. Naruto gained new powers from the Sage of Six Paths, and his overall strength increased greatly. His chakra reserve improved, and he was no longer vulnerable to being damaged by the truth-seeking orbs. Later, Naruto was able to go toe to toe against Madara with ease. Neither Madara's Limbo clone nor his meteors were enough to hurt Naruto. Towards the end of the fight, Madara was struggling to find room to breathe. It's safe to say that if the Black Zetsu hadn't gotten rid of Madara, Naruto would have had no problem dispatching him.

Before Naruto and Sasuke got the Six Path Power, the responsibility to stop Madara fell on the shoulders of Minato and those close to him. Despite the numerical advantage, they struggled to push the Uchiha. Even Might Guy using the Seventh Gate couldn't make a dent in Madara's defenses. So, the ninjas decided to change their approach.

Instead of trying to fight him in one-on-one matches, they came up with a plan that would allow Mighty Boy to hit him. The biggest difference was that the boy would use the eighth and final gate, while Minato and Rock Lee combined to get the Truth Seeking Orbs out of the way. This created an opportunity for Might Guy to deliver a devastating blow to Madara. The Uchiha tried to stop the boy using his staff, but the latter was so fast that he was able to bend space-time. Upon contact, a large portion of Madara's body was destroyed. If the attack had connected with any other ninja, they would have died instantly.

Sasuke hit Madara with his speed

Sasuke's first meeting with Madara was profound. At that time, Madara recognized Sasuke's power and wanted him to join his cause. The latter refused, but Madara still allowed him to leave because he did not perceive Sasuke as a threat. However, Sasuke was not so lucky the second time, as Madara struck him with his own sword.

A normal man would die, but Kishimoto wouldn't let that happen. After reviving and gaining the power of the Sage of the Six Paths, Sasuke became much stronger. In fact, he had Madara on the ropes. His Rinnegan allowed him to see through Limbo clones, removing one of Madara's greatest advantages. Sasuke's speed was also enhanced, and he used it to great effect. He managed to blitz Madara, who had impressive speed in his own right. For the rest of the fight, Madara was on edge, trying to protect himself from Sasuke.
