7 Characters Who Can Counter Hashirama's Wood Release

Hashirama Senju is one of the few characters Naruto who is revered as a god among shinobi, thanks to his immense skill and strength. He wields Wood Release, a rare and powerful nature transformation Kekkei Genkai that can single-handedly defeat a fully released Tailed Beast. Some ninja would consider Wood Release invincible, but there are few characters that can withstand Hashirama's signature ability.

Wood Release can block opponents and knock them out of their chakra, and Hashirama can create giant wooden constructs with incredible offensive power. all Naruto Characters that can resist Hashirama's Wood Release are either Kaze or Kaze-level, and they can either destroy his Wood Release outright or evade its grasp. Some characters can literally disintegrate Hashirama's excellent Wood Release technique.

Onoki can erase Hashirama's Wood Release with Dust Release

Onoki served as the Third Tsuchikage of the Hidden Stone Village for decades, and all those battle experiences helped him become one of the strongest ninjas in history. He has mastered Earth Release, but it doesn't do much against Hashirama's Wood Release. Fortunately, Onoki is one of the few people in existence who can use Dust Release, an extremely rare and powerful Kekki Tota that can instantly destroy Wood Release.

With Dust Release, Onoki can use his chakra to create three-dimensional objects with his hands and then fire them at a target. These objects travel incredibly fast and expand immediately upon reaching the target. Anything that enters these expanded objects disintegrates at the molecular level. During the Fourth Great Ninja War, Onoki used Dust Release to vaporize Madara's Wood Release. Hashirama's Wood Release may be slightly stronger than Madara's, but Onoki will be able to disintegrate any Wood Justu used by Hashirama.

A, The Third Raikage, Lightning Release Chakra Mod can blow away Hashirama's Wood Release

It has been many years since the Third Raikage died, but he is still considered the strongest ninja in the history of the Hidden Cloud Village. He possessed superhuman strength, speed, durability, reflexes, and endurance, and he could significantly enhance all of these physical attributes with the Lightning Release Chakra Mode. In this state, the Third Raikage's body was covered in lightning chakra, making his body immune to most physical attacks.

The Third Raikage was able to fight the stalemate with the fully released Eight-Tails by themselves. In fact, the only wound he sustained was one he accidentally inflicted on himself. He fought an army of 10,000 ninja for three days until his death. By focusing his lightning chakra into his hands and fingers, the Third Raikage could cut through the straight tailed beast's body like butter. The Third Raikage could not only cut his way through Hashirama's Wood Release with the Lightning Release Chakra Mode, but cut straight through the wood with his fingers.

Obito can deal with the release of wood using Kamui

After nearly a year of training with Madara, Obito became a Kage-level ninja, and it also helped awaken his Mangekyo Sharingan during that time. In doing so, Obito gained access to Kamui, a space-time ninjutsu that qualifies as one of the best teleportation abilities in anime. With his left eye, Obito used a short-range version of Kamui to teleport his entire body, or specific body parts, into the Kamui dimension.

This version of Kamui gave Obito a form of intangibility, meaning that physical attacks simply went through his body. Thanks to the Hashirama cells in his body, Obito can use Kamui as much as he wants without going blind. Hashirama's Wood Release may be able to stop someone and drain their chakra, but it requires physically touching them first. Thanks to Kamui, Obito can phase through any Wood Release Jutsu that Hashirama throws at him.

Nagato can get rid of Wood Release with his Rinnegan

Nagato's Rinnegan may actually belong to Madara, but he mastered the god-level Eye Kekkei Genkai. With these eyes, Nagato can summon various animals, absorb ninjutsu, interact with spirits, and augment his body with mechanical armor and mechanical weapons. Thanks to the Deva Path, Nagato can also manipulate the forces of attraction and repulsion.

Hashirama's Wood Release can easily deflect Nagato's summons, and it is unclear whether Nagato can absorb any Wood Release attacks since it is a solid substance that also absorbs chakra. That said, Nagato can use Asura Path to blast any wood-based Justu with ballistic missiles and energy blasts. With the Deva Path, Nagato can eliminate and shatter Hashirama's Wood Golem and Wood Dragon. Nagato destroyed the entire Leaf Village with a single almighty push, so he should be able to destroy Hashirama's titanic wooden statue with ease.

Minato can counter the wood release with his incredible speed

As the Fourth Hokage, Minato is the strongest ninja the Hidden Leaf Village has ever produced, and when he was alive, he was considered the fastest ninja alive. It could be argued that Minato was the closest character to light speed, and that's because he mastered and perfected the Flying Thunder God Technique. This mastery forced the other nations to flee on sight if their ninjas faced Minato in the field.

Minato would throw dozens of kunai in the form of the Flying Thunder God Technique onto the battlefield. He can instantly teleport to any of these kunai at any time, and he can apply the formula to any surface he touches with his hand. If Hashirama were to unleash his entire Wood Release arsenal on Minato, he could teleport away to avoid all of Hashirama's attacks. If he's fast enough, Minato can teleport behind Hashirama and take him down with a surprise attack.

Itachi Uchiha can stop Hashirama's wood release with Amaterasu and his Susanoo

Hashirama was strong enough to defeat the legendary Madara Uchiha in battle. He was able to defeat Madara's full Susanoo with a wood golem, and easily defeated the Nine-Tails when merged with Madara's Susanoo. Most Naruto fans thought Itachi was weaker than Madara, and that he wouldn't even stand a chance against Hashirama's Wood Release, but Itachi's Susanoo was not only stronger than Madara's, it was considered unbeatable.

Itachi's Susanoo wields the Totsuka Blade, an ethereal sword that can supposedly cut through anything, meaning it can cut through any of Hashirama's Wood Release constructs. Her Susanoo also carried the Yata Mirror, a legendary shield that could reflect any attack. This mirror alone would be enough to counter all of Hashirama's wood release techniques. With enough chakra, Itachi could also use Amaterasu to burn any wood that Hashirama created, and Hashirama would not be able to extinguish Amaterasu's black flames.

Kaguya can counter Hashirama's wood release by swapping dimensions

Like other members of the Otsutsuki Clan, Kaguya also wields god-like abilities that guarantee her victory under normal circumstances. Even if Hashirama summoned a wooden golem or his titanic wooden statue, Kaguya could use her all-killing Ash Bones technique to dismember him with his sprawling bones. Even Hashirama's incredible healing cannot stop this technique if Kaguya hits him directly.

Kaguya wields the Rinne Sharingan, one of them Naruto Franchise's rare abilities, and it allowed him to use Amenominaka, a space-time ninjutsu that gave him the ability to instantly teleport himself and others to other dimensions. By teleporting himself away, he could avoid Hashirama's attack. If she teleports Hashirama as well, her Volcanic Dimension will ignite any wood Hashirama builds, and her Gravity Dimension will either crush Hashirama's wooden constructions with intense gravity or prevent them from growing.
