Algeria places pro-democracy activists in pre-trial detention: lawyer

Algiers: Eight Algerian activists from the pro-democracy movement that toppled the country's last president have been remanded in pre-trial detention, while six others have been released under judicial supervision, one of their lawyers said on Friday. The activists were arrested from July 8 to 15 in Bezia, about 220 kilometers (136 miles) east of the capital, Algiers.
